Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just picked up my C4S on Monday, so I'm still learning about the car. (Not my first 911, but it is my first 996) Is it common for these cars to lose the training for the one-touch windows / sunroof? When I picked up the car, they all worked. Later that night, none of them worked, so I went through the retraining process for each one, and all was good. That same night, I ended up putting a new battery in the car, so I went through all the retraining once again. I just took the car out tonight, and once again, none of the one-touch worked. The windows and sunroof were open while it was in the garage, and I had to hold each switch to close them all. I did some searching and saw that there are sometimes issues with a motor or regulator going, but I find it hard to believe that all 3 of mine have issues at the same time. Any thoughts?

POST 2Original post

Normally mine only forgets when the battery is disconnected.

POST 3Original post

in 5 years of ownership, I've never had my windows "forget" anything. YMMV.

POST 4Original post

Haven't had windows do that but sunroof is notorious for acting up. Sometimes it will work no problem and others you have to click the up and forward/back button in different order to work correctly...doesn't happen all the time but has on multiple occasions...forums show this is common and might require sunroof motor replacement...

POST 5Original post

This is a well-known gremlin with the sunroof button. I haven't seen it with the side windows though.

POST 6Original post

We should have never had sunroofs. Thats one thing i wish my car didnt have. OP have you checked your battery cables. One might be loose and cause an outtage for a few seconds which will cause the memory loss.

Yes I did, since I just replaced the battery. I went back in there and double checked, and they are tight. They all seem to be working now, so I'm just hoping they stay that way.
