If you just installed it, I would check the wiring first to make sure that it's connected to the correct wires and the connections are secure.

When I purchased the 2000 996 a few months ago it had a Pioneer single DINN stereo installed, I don't have a clue if it is using the factory amp or is bypassing it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello, I have an aftermarket pioneer head unit, the unit has power but no sounds are playing, any ideas folks. Thanks, David

POST 2Original post

It could be a lot of things. We need some more information to be able to help. Did you just install the unit or was it working before and just quit? What have you checked so far? If you just installed it, I would check the wiring first to make sure that it's connected to the correct wires and the connections are secure. The next thing I would check is the whether the head unit is configured correctly. Many head units have configuration options that affect speaker output. My Pioneer head unit has an option for something like "Speaker/Speaker" or "Speaker/Sub" which controls whether any sound output goes to the rear channels.

David, this is too broad of a question. It's like saying I have a pet that didn't eat her breakfast and looks sick, any ideas? You need to investigate further. I would start with the Pioneer manual and see if there are any settings (e.g. mute) that are mistakenly selected. You need to be prepared to remove the head unit and test the speakers. Is it running an amp in the frunk? Is it a retrofit that uses the existing Porsche amplifier? Or, is the head unit powering the speakers? Lots of questions. Good luck!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Let me add a few details. When I purchased the 2000 996 a few months ago it had a Pioneer single DINN stereo installed, I don't have a clue if it is using the factory amp or is bypassing it. All of the lights and controls seem to function but no sounds, not even static. I see no mute button. What I was wondering is what steps I could take to troubleshoot. I can see the amp and there does not seem to be any lights on it so I can't really tell if it's connected or not. I've been thinking about taking a voltmeter and see did I can find any juice in it.

POST 5Original post

Verify that the speakers are connected and report back.

This is the place to start. Use this guide to remove your head unit from the dash. https://www.pelicanparts.com/techart...stallation.htm It has a chart of all the wires from the dash. Then Google for the wiring chart for your head unit and make sure that the wires are properly connected. On a Pioneer, you probably have line/preamp outputs that should go to the amp via the yellow connector.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I did some checking and the original amp is in the front beside the original CD Changer. Neither connector is attached so I think they bypassed it with the Pioneer unit.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Looks like the problem was that the amp broke and they disconnected it and didn't replace, I'm getting a new one installed later this week. Thanks for all the advice from you folks, you're great. David
