Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It has been 4 years since I installed my B&M shifter, but that one does not look right.

I installed a Weltmeister SSK when I had my '86 Carrera and that one had the lean too.

I will check when I get home from a trip since my B&M is sitting on my work bench (replaced with 997 ss).

You DO NOT re-use the fitting, but insert the large side ball into the rectangular area and it free floats?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey guys,
I'm knee deep in this install and finally opened the package to install the kit and came across this shifter. Maybe I'm going crazy, but I thought this was BLUE for 996 and the shift lever was straight? Also, the ball and socket on the side is twice the size of the OEM shifter! I can't get it to fit in the socket. Did they send me the wrong one? I'm going to take a break, eat dinner and have multiple cocktails to figure this one out and since it's Sunday BumperPlugs and B&M are of course closed. PLEASE HELP! I would like to finish this task tonight, but have a very bad feeling I'll be shipping this one back and getting the correct one?
Actually it does look right. The white square nylon piece is not re-used. Also the shifter 'stick' is just as your picture shows. It has a 'lean' to it.
I attached some instructions. Hope this helps.

I will check when I get home from a trip since my B&M is sitting on my work bench (replaced with 997 ss). I do know my housing is blue aluminum, but I can't remember if the stick is "bent". I'll report back on Tuesday eve.
The bent arm is part of the reason the 'throw' is shorter. Don't know why. I installed a Weltmeister SSK when I had my '86 Carrera and that one had the lean too.
Thanks Pete, going crazy with a dead car in my garage! The pictures below are of what you're talking about. You DO NOT re-use the fitting, but insert the large side ball into the rectangular area and it free floats?
Pete, I've read the instruction so many times they're blury. When you look at Step 26 and then Step 27 they don't show the side ball insert, they just say install B&M Kit. That's what threw me for a loop thinking I had to use the nylon socket.
Sorry went to bed early last night...did you notice the 'side ball' fits right in there? That is what I did. I would complete the install if you haven't already. I'm sure Eric from BumperPlugs will chime in today. Once you have installed it feels like lock and load when shifting. Its a great mod.
Kuddos to Eric at BumperPlugs and the Kenji at B&M. Not many, if any, will get an email on Sunday night and reply and assist. No sooner did I think I was done, I had an email from Eric and B&M with the remedy! That in my opinion is SERVICE!!!!
On to CF E-Brake install and wrap this baby up! Then I get to take it all apart again in a couple of weeks when that sweet painted rear center console arrives from Eric.....
Hats off to Eric at BumperPlugs and B&M!!!
Many thanks,
