Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Once the regulator was replaced, the alarm system worked properly and the windows dropped as expected (they had not been dropping the distance designed prior).
Leading evidence: 'Replace once the regulator' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace once the regulator' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
The general solution to the window not dropping, as expected, with even one pull of the handle, is to replace the window regulators.

Suggestion
I've had to replace window regulators, even though the windows were lowering, because they were not communicating correctly with the locking system.

Suggestion
You might try "resetting the windows" (easily google-able), but you likely need to window regulators.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When I had my 00 Boxster, it always required two pulls to open the door. I think to lower the window that half inch before the door opened. Not sure. How can I get (or can I) my 02 996 to do the same thing. I can hit the lock button on the dash which requires the double pull but that is only in effect that one time. How do I set it to be permanent?
Thanks.
My 02 drops when I pull either handle (inside and out) halfway then open the door from the halfway point. They should all do this from what I understand.
Under any normal circumstance, 996 (and 986, 987, 981 Boxster) cars should lower the window a slight bit when you pull the handle
once
.
The purpose of the double-pull from inside is to unlock the doors. These cars do not have lock mechanisms on the doors, so the double-pull is to allow you to get out without having to use the dash button.
The general solution to the window not dropping, as expected, with even one pull of the handle, is to replace the window regulators. You might try "resetting the windows" (easily google-able), but you likely need to window regulators.
So why did your Boxster seem to work when you locked the doors to enforce a double-pull? There is an interplay between the security/locking system and the window regulators. I've had to replace window regulators, even though the windows were lowering, because they were not communicating correctly with the locking system. The locking system would issue the double-horn salute meaning the car was not properly locked. The diagnosis was confirmed by reading the codes. Once the regulator was replaced, the alarm system worked properly and the windows dropped as expected (they had not been dropping the distance designed prior). I suspect that in your Boxster you had a similar issue that meant the windows only dropped when you engaged/disengaged the locking system.
You can self-replace these regulators. They are sold at lots places, since this is a common problem with these cars.
It will require a tool that does "codeing". (Piwis or Durametric PRo).
You would go into .>>> 996>>Alarm control>>>codeing>>> set to Auto Lock at 5mph..
Then it would require "double pull" to open the door after a short drive.
