We've even seen examples when Charles has replaced his magnetic drain plugs for Rennlisters, even when the customer has over torqued the product.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Last year I installed a magnetic oil plug purchased on Amazon. The aluminum alloy used was not as hard as the stock plug. The torqued used was obviously less. The magnet was strong, I suspect neodymium. Yesterday I was doing an oil change before winter storage. The plug was on my wrench. As I was getting ready to reinstall it after wiping and examining for metal, the magnet came off the plug! Wow! I was lucky it didnt do that in the engine. I contacted the seller. They said it was over a year since I purchased it. I simply was informing them that the engineering of the plug may be an issue. It appeared the magnet was glued in. Bad design, as it should be retained by a mechanical means such as having the metal rolled over, or something other than glue. I will never use another plug like this. I am going back to the factory drain plug.

POST 2Original post

Buy a high quality billet magnetic drain from from L&N Engineering, and stay away from junk and crappy vendors on Amazon who don't stand behind their products.

POST 4Original post

No company is perfect. Including Charles' at L&N. But when there's an issue, he quickly resolves it for his customers. We've even seen examples when Charles has replaced his magnetic drain plugs for Rennlisters, even when the customer has over torqued the product. Don't completely judge a company by its mistakes, judge them by how they resolve them.
