If you have checked their reputation and it is good then that is a very nice price...about six hundred less than Easy Care.

I almost strayed away from DBW, but I was able to get everything in writing, meaning I only need maintenance records from the time I own the car, they will cover any and all IMS issues, have no lifetime coverage limits on any components, and use only OEM replacement parts.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone have experience with Direct Buy Warranty?
Years ago when I was looking for an A/M warranty (not for the 996): I asked my local indy which ones were easy/painful to work with. Then I contacted the company my indy "preferred" and asked them if they cover the "known" issues of the car in question (an 01 BMW 740iL). Only then did I decide to buy a warranty.
My car is a 2003, had 39000 miles on it and Easy Care accepted me. Bought through a Porsche Dealer...but not who I bought the car from. You might double check with a Dealer for Easy Care. I chose the second level of protection...engine, trans, fuel system...paid $2500 for 3 years 36000 miles. I haven't had to use them yet...it is more like catastrophic health insurance.
Rick,
I signed my DBW contract a couple weeks ago. 2003 996 MK2, 6-spd, IMPECCABLE condition, full maintenance history with new IMS, 41,000 miles..... 5 yr 60,000 miles platinum elite coverage and $0 deductible for $2300.
Easy care was $9,000 through my deal with $500 deductible and only 4 years
Thanks Kab1994, I did a little homework and it looks like DBW has caught the eye of the NJ AG and has a class action suit against it. I have more due dilegence to do but looks like these guys dont have the best rep.
Do you have any news on their financial condition or BBB rating or other third party review group?
Update.
1. EasyCare 8 year old car max Porsche. Dealers may have option to extend to 10 year old cars. I am working on this now.
2. Direct Buy Warranty. Good price, not so good reputation. 3k 5 years no deductible
3. LaSalle. 5k, 5 years, 500.00 ded. Seems to have a good rep.
Rick,
I did about two weeks of research on these warranties. Each one has some kind of horror story. I almost strayed away from DBW, but I was able to get everything in writing, meaning I only need maintenance records from the time I own the car, they will cover any and all IMS issues, have no lifetime coverage limits on any components, and use only OEM replacement parts. If you maintain the car according to the factory and keep records there is nothing that they can do. DBW is A1 best rated and has been in business for 25 yrs so I believe they are financially strong (that was my first question as well). I have no idea about the class action, can you post a link? I live in Nevada, a state that is very consumer friendly when it comes to these warranties (we had an Attorney General that got screwed, and he made it a nightmare for them here).
If it is any help I have a carchex (platinum) warranty on my 04 c2. 3 yr 36000. They have been wonderful to deal with. The have replaced my climate control unit in its entirety for a broken led, 3 coils, and a coolant tank. All work done at my Indy no issues.
I recently spoke with Assurant, which is said to have a good reputation and underwrites for USAA and some for Carchex. Unfortunately, they no longer seem to handle Porsche's, as I asked about a range of years for 911's and none were covered.
I've heard CarMax is (relatively) reasonably priced and good to work with, but only deals with vehicles they've sold. They quoted me $2,600 for a 5-year / 50K / $300 deductible policy on a 2007 Turbo with 21K miles. Struck me as reasonable, except it's too much coverage -- I put 2-3K miles per year on my P-Cars, especially in recent years where the winters have been harsh and the roads have been in poor condition.
Local dealers will have options, but they're usually sold with significant mark-ups, so it's worth calling around to several regional dealers to do some price discovery. I may end up doing so.
Thanks for sharing findings -- I've been looking into it some and will share results as well.
Just spoke to one of the regional dealers. No coverage on my 2001 C4; he said most companies only cover cars with less than 10 years of age. For a 2007 Turbo, for the full-service option with full/CPO-like coverage:
- 3yr/36K: $2,900
- 5yr/50K: $4,379
Prorated refund if you cancel mid-stream. Disappointed there isn't a coverage option for more modest usage (I would be only drive a fraction of the amount).
I didn't attempt to haggle, but I got a sense there was some wiggle room -- probably more if it was in conjunction with a purchase from them.
