Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Welcome but please remember to use the search function.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am from north Alabama and close to being able to draw social security. I look forward to learning all that I can here about the 996. There appears to be a wealth of information here. I hope to someday own one of these cars.
Ignore the search function it is only filled with old news. You and your Porsche will be unique and you should be able to get lots of IMS information if you just ask.
Deep inside of me I know that buying one of these cars is crazy. But at the same time it is hard to give up on the dream of owning one that I have had since I built models as a child. Besides, I have done a few crazy things before !
I too have been wanting a 911 ever since I turned 17. Many years ago. Now I am seriously looking at a budget of $25k for a 2002 or newer cabriolet . Just concerned about cost of ownership...especially tires. Will look in the forum for info in tires. Great site!
Busted a gut on that one!!!
Never were truer words written on this forum.
Even so, OTMike.... do you want to someday be on your death bed and say "man, there was this one time that I
almost
bought a Porsche."
Listen to what Dennis C says:
Most of the time I'm happy enough without a Porsche. I know that I don't need one. I have read about the risks involved in owning one. Then I get this fever....
In all seriousness, if buying a Porsche would scare you because maintenance or a potential mechanical failure would be a financial hardship, then don't buy one.
No car is worth putting your financial future in jeopardy over.
But if the money to buy and maintain the car is available, the satisfaction a Porsche can bring is tremendous. For me, and probably many others, the joy of owning a Porsche is enhanced when there is no need to worry about potential expenses making a large dent in the long term finances.
I am kind of a bargain hunter when it comes to major purchases that is why I got a 996 best 911 value out there!!!
I regret not doing it sooner - I bought a boxster first because they are even cheaper then realized I should have just got the 911
Liked the boxster - love the 911
