Since then, an oil change (still clean, thank-you!) and have added a frunk lid liner, ash tray delete, and premium emproidered floor mats.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Purchased a very clean 2000 C2 in Arctic Silver with all black leather interior and 37,000 miles with a clear PPI. Since then, an oil change (still clean, thank-you!) and have added a frunk lid liner, ash tray delete, and premium emproidered floor mats. Audio system upgrade is in progress with Kennwood single din head, JL Audio Amp, Focal dash components, Focal door subs, and Hertz in the rear from Rod at CAI. Still to come are dash buttons for the garage door opener and the spoiler, and a new accessory plug for the cigarette lighter, Fister mufflers, and of course the notorious IMS bearing. It is my daily driver with two road trips under my belt to Palm Springs and Las Vegas. Observations include: persons think I spent a boatload of cash, persons think I make a boatload of money, most are incredulous when I tell them the car is 15 years old, there is a different level of respect from persons that associate the car with me, some drivers demonstrate a willingness to move over if I am behind them in the fast lane, some drivers exhibit aggression/anger when they see me coming, even the slowest POS car accelerates when I try to pass, 911 drivers wave, the car pulls like a bitch at higher rpms, 60-100 acceleration is a thrill, the car is very smooth at high speeds, her back end sucks down when accelerating through the twisties, the driver must pay attention at all times as the car reacts instantly to any driver movements, it is perfectly comfortable driving for hours on end, the steering is not like any other car I have driven, stock hifi sucks, my wife loves the car (it gets her all excited), my daughter loves it cuz it feels like a spaceship!, and my Harley is feeling lonely and jealous since I bought this Porsche. This forum has been a great source of information especially from the 996 experts, entertainment from those with a sense of humor (and boobie pics especially the gal in the cowboy hat, OMFG) and at times disappointing for the vitriol among posters. The modes of failure are not comforting, but I have come to accept the facts and drive it like I stole it whenever I can. I feel gut wrenched by the recent failures and wish those owners well with the best possible outcomes. After owning my share of Japanese imports, family cars, SUVs, historic and recent muscle cars and more than a handful of Mercedes I am a convert to the platform and hope to always have one in my possession. Thanks to all of you, be respectful to your fellow posters and keep the boobies coming! Andy

POST 5Original post

Hi Andy, if you come to Vegas again give me a shout, I would love to see your car and what the stereo sounds like, mine sucks. I also have bikes. Dave

POST 6Original post

Add some pics of the radio install. I am thinking of getting a package from CAI. I spend a lot of time on their website but have not pulled the trigger yet.
