Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

6 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all, Looking to get some help here! I have this water leak (only from heavy rain), but I cannot figure out where this is coming from! Car is a 996 Coupe Appreciate if anyone has any comments, from what I know: -Front driver's side carpet is very wet, and drivers side damp. Rear feels damp, but no where near wet (I cannot imagine that there's a leak from the rear ceiling) -I don't see any water stains from the roof, A, B and C pillars. Lower side carpets are 'damp' but isn't soaking wet -I checked the 'frunk', the water draining hole- at least from the looks of it, nothing is clogged -Sunroof seals look good, don't really see anything specifically concerning I'm 100% sure that the windows were closed, can't really think of anything but the front part of the car leaking water into the cabin! Cheers

POST 2Original post

Sunroofs don't really seal, on any car. They are just designed to hold back the water long enough to drain out the drains before the water goes into the car. Each corner of the sunroof has a drain. I would bet the drain either got clogged or the line got disconnected.

POST 3Original post

You have to pull the battery panels and frunk panels to check all the drains. Leaves and debris clogs the front drains. You have to make sure all of them are clear.

POST 4Original post

I had a pretty major water leak, and it turned out to be that my inner door membrane was no longer waterproof sealed. The carpet on the door was dry? If it is wet, I would bet that it is the door membrane.

POST 5Original post

Do you run your AC often? It took me a really long time to discover my AC condensation drain was leaking into the passenger footwell.

POST 6Original post

I spent years chasing the same leak on my '02 Coupe. It's most likely leaking at the cabin air filter under the frunk. See if the cabin filter has a hole in it like mice have been chewing through. The water / rain goes down the window, through the paper air filter then chases down the HVAC ductwork and through the vents. My cabin filter had no cover when I bought it and the replacement piece is rather useless. I made my own rain shield by stealing the appropriately sized cover from my wife's tupperware set and then melting / shaping the pilfered plastic with my hot knife propane torch to make a friction fit of sorts. NO leaks since!
