After searching and giving used wheels and used winter tires some thought, I decided to go with new aftermarket wheels (not my first choice) and new rubber.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all. I am thinking about an OEM set of winter wheels/rubber and need to make sure I am on the right track. I believe my stock 40 AE wheels are: Front 8x18 with a 50mm offset Rear 10x18 with a 65mm offset I see plenty 7.5 x 18 front wheels with the same offset as mine and want to make sure they will fit my car without any issues or spacers. Thanks!

POST 2Original post

they fit. They'll look just a little sunk in but still fine

POST 3Original post

I agree, I have a set of each and you really cannot tell the difference at all especially since the wheel designs will be different.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for confirming, Geetee and Walter!

POST 5Original post

Nice to see you'll be enjoying your 40th this winter fmmoto. Maybe I'll see you driving to Loon Mtn. or Southern Maine once we get snow in the mountains. I can fit 2 pair of skis, ski boot bag. poles, winter ski gear/clothing, duffle bag easily, then I leave all my gear at a locker at the base. What brand tires will you use?

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi neighbor in ME! I am contemplating a used wheel & tire set from a fellow R-lister (Sneaky Pete) and he has Pirelli Snowsports which is what I am considering if I go with new (O.Z) wheels and rubber. I'm looking forward to winter driving; the prediction is we will have plenty of play time in the snow this season!

POST 7Original post

Sneaky Pete would be a good Rennlister to purchase from.

POST 8Original post

Hi guys -- new to posting but long time reader with an 04 996 C4S cab that's new to me for the last month or so. All stock. No mods. Anyway I happened to come across this thread and thought it curious regarding wheel sizes. I bought a winter wheel and tire set up off eBay recently from someone and included 7.5x18 fronts with the 225/40R18s mounted. When I put them on the front, there wasn't any clearance for the brake calipers. Anyone else run into this issue with the c4s? The seller said he mounted them just fine on his c4s. Not sure how he was able to do that. Didn't think there was a difference in brake calipers between the years. I bought 15mm spacers to get them to clear the hardware. According to the owner's manual the 7.5x18s should fit the c2, c4 just fine.

POST 9Original post

Would OEM 17" wheels work on the car and give more space for chains if needed? My understanding is that in snow you want narrower not wider tires.

Hi. I have also been trying to find a cost-effective winter set. Most of the used sets I saw were either worn too far or were too old to be considered safe for use. 6/32 of tread is serviceable for summer tires but worn out for winter tires and neither summer nor winter tires should be used 6 years after mounting. This is particularly the case with winter tires since the pliability of the rubber is so important and the rubber hardens with age. Check the DOT codes on the tires to figure out the week/year of manufacture. So most of the sets I saw were useful only for the wheels and consequently were priced a little on the high side. YMMV of course.

I hear you! After searching and giving used wheels and used winter tires some thought, I decided to go with new aftermarket wheels (not my first choice) and new rubber. I agonized over the decision but the piece of mind with new rubber was the deciding factor. I figured the O.Z's would be fine for winter and the occasional track day (with different rubber of course-ha). So my final decision ends up being O.Z Alleggerita HLT wheels with Porsche spec Pirelli Snowsports. Bring on the snow!

The problem with 17" snow wheels is finding tires that fit your rims. There is a lot more choice in snow tires for 18" wheels.

POST 13Original post

FMMOTO......I'd love to see a pick of how your new tires look on your 40th anniv. I'm in your same boat in Upstate NY needing winter tires on my 40th Anniv. Maybe i'll follow your footsteps. Did you buy these from a retailer or through the mail? Paul

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Paul, Happy Thanksgiving! Well we will all have to wait for fabulous winter wheel and rubber pics. I ordered via Tire Rack and the OZ's are backordered until mid to late December! I chose the wheel after seeing them on MA Carbon's 996....see link below. I just got home from visiting my mom in upstate NY (west of Albany). Where are you in NY?? https://www.pinterest.com/pin/383368987000055017/

POST 15Original post

Although not an exact match, the wheels in these pics are really close, so I thought I'd share them with you to see what they look like on a 40th. These wheels were on Nr. 0518 back in 2008-09. Post some pics when you get the new winter setup on the car, and safe driving this winter!

POST 16Original post

I’m selling my extra set of winter wheels/tires for cheap off my turbo. I know the offsets aren’t the same, but looks like they’d fit and clear the brakes/chassis? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...zak-tires.html

Not a single flake of snow in Southern NH so I had to travel all the way to VT today to get a snow pic! Actually I was visiting my mom in NY and stopped on the way to take a few photos. Wheels and tires from Chris at Tire Rack. Dirt courtesy of NH. Salt dust and dirt courtesy of VT. Now we just need a little snow.....Happy New Year everyone.
