Heck, even a 60k used engine pulled from a crashed car is selling for $14k.

However, I'm still trying out the "check fit" function, which does not seem to work well for the two parts I tried

I've been using Sunset for many years as they have great price and top-notch customer service.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Have you tried this yet? I've been using Sunset for many years as they have great price and top-notch customer service. One of the features I like is they can confirm if the parts fit your car if you provide the VIN.
Now with this online ordering site, it should be even more convenient. However, I'm still trying out the "check fit" function, which does not seem to work well for the two parts I tried

Finally, waiting 2 years for it.
You might compare to Circle Porsche parts website. Cheap prices, slow website.
The 997 rollers are plastic & ribbed from side view. Lighter!!
Yes, I saw the 997 rollers but the question is are they truly intended for my '03 Carrera manual transmission? The Sunset link shows 996 part numbers and not 997 part numbers hence my question. Parts #8 & 10.

I get that Sunset provides great service but I will never understand why someone would pay $323 for a Porsche water pump at Sunset when they can get it for $245 at Sonnen.
I think that's an exception. I got the water pump for $233 from Sunset 2 yrs ago. Maybe give other parts a try? I'm pretty sure Sunset's price is very competitive.
Ah, that's right. Now I remember. I did look at Sonnen before but concluded Sunset is cheaper overall due to no tax. You are right though the water pump is much cheaper from Sonnen.
Looks like Sunset heard you. They adjusted the water pump price to $255.77 now.
No tax for CA customers so it's cheaper than Sonnen.
Also Sunset shipping cost is more than fair compared to others such as Gaudin..
Terrific! Maybe I will give them a try. I'm still on the fence regarding a preemptive replacement of the water pump. No issues with the cooling system so far.
Hey Steve, I would rather change it out now as opposed to dealing with broken fins later, which could happen silently. Is your pump original?
Also, it will be a good opportunity to do a complete coolant change.
I buy from them frequently, and started browsing a few days ago. Does 40 grand sound right for a new 996 engine? Seems really high, but I've not shopped.
I understand that this is a really serious forum, maybe the most serious ever. But that's one price that caught my eye, and that's why I asked. My impression has been that the 996 engines were in the $15k neighborhood. Maybe even installed...
You are right the engines used to be around $10k but those days were long gone
Good business for engine rebuilders.
Heck, even a 60k used engine pulled from a crashed car is selling for $14k.
I wish there was a site that combines the following for the convenience of the customers.
- Low price and shipping from Sunset Porsche
- Kickass hi-res part photos from ECStuning
- Detailed exploded part diagrams from Atlanta Porsche
+996, that would be a winning combination. Maybe add in a free VIN/option decoder service too and that would be ****.
However FWIW, I found ECStuning to have some good pricing on certain items as well as great service. Sunset and Suncoast have also been great to deal with as well in the past for me.
