I was talking to my wife some more about this and think it was the winter coats and kids wanting to hold and play with their toys.

Suggestion
Mine has her own 996 and e90, both manuals, changes her own oil, and wants another 996 to build a track car.

Suggestion
A day later we are sent to the hospital and she politely says "can you drive me in the blue one, it rides so much nicer, and you can use my Handicap permit to park, the parking spaces are really wide".

Maybe once I find a car seat that fits the 996 will get some more use with the girlfriend and her daughter.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I wanted to drive the TT today so took the family out to exchange some of my kids repeat gifts. We loaded up the tt with two kids two adults and a few presents. The wife didn't like it though, claims to have missed the height and luxury of her 12 touareg. It was a little hectic with four people in the car, but a lot of fun driving none the less. She said in the old days when we had an accord and a boxster the ride wasn't so different and it was only the two of us. The touareg is our first suv and much more comfortable for 4. How is it for you guys?
We don't run chores with the 996; for that we have an ML and a Prius. But we do take weekend drives which we all enjoy. From time to time, we'll stop by on the way back for a few groceries. We especially enjoy taking it out on dates. My wife loves the 996 and is jealous as hell for not being able to drive a manual, which is good cuz I don't have to say "No".
Take her on a canyon or beach cruise (sorry in SoCal lol) that always does the trick for me...except the constant "slow down that's too fast" which you obviously respond "I know what I'm doing" haha
Wife will ride in mine no problem but she refuses to drive it. I think she's mostly afraid of getting home (manual transmission, inclined driveway, 996 parks in the single stall so it's a smaller "target" than she's used to) but I honestly don't mind that much so I don't push it. :-)
My wife likes to ride in it going out to dinner, occasional shopping trips, pleasure drives, PCA drives, etc.
But she also drives it to work once a week or so in good weather. She will not drive it unless she can drop the top.
We took it on a weeklong vacation this fall too, during which she drove a fair share of the way.
How did we get her interested in driving it? Had to buy a tiptronic.
But she will never drive the Cayman because it is a manual. A guy's gotta have one car to himself...
Loves PCA Runs in the mountains, never complains about speed, likes the sound of the Fister D mufflers, and steals the keys whenever she can.
One thing she does complain about... Her BMW 330 cabrio doesn't have a manual transmission.
All true. I win.
It's hers, so no. She likes to do the driving
We're the opposite of your family actually, I'm an SUV guy and prefer my 958 over her 996 or e90. She doesn't like it's height though as it makes her uncomfortable to be so high up.
Stiff ride, noisy, cramped, can't see over the traffic in front of you... And the driver (me) is usually hitting the throttle to get another hit of the crack-pipe-intake-noise-wail. What's not to love?
No, my wife didn't super-enjoy the 996.... On the plus side, she did like it much more than my 911SC (no AC, track tuned suspension) and a little bit more than the Cayman S (yes, the engine is six inches behind your back) .
Seriously though (and I know this is sacrilege) for urban blasting, commuting, dealing with idiot drivers & busy freeways and parking lots that will ding you, running to home depot or the grocery store, or up to the mountains with the bikes or skis or dogs,
the other vehicles in our garage are
far
better choices
(F150 FX4 twin-turbo, previous Touareg V8, even the Q5).
Now I still love my sports cars and motos (three KTM's primarily), but it's not until I'm beyond the urban sprawl or up in our mountain cabin that I really can fully enjoy them.
But even though Porsches are not her 'thing', she fully supports/indulges me going on fanatical car searches or track days or indulge in multi-week international dual-sport riding, so IMHO,
"I Win!" ;-)
My wife LOVES our 996. When she is driving it (actually it is her car) I often refer to her as Mario or Danica. She like riding in our (my) 986 S as well.
Its kind of funny, because she rarely complains about my driving in one of the P-cars, but yells at me all the time in the Jetta.
I do get to do most of the driving when we are in the twisties. I'm pushing her to take the next PDS, only problem will be she will probably want to do the driving in the twisties then
No wife... But every other girl does. Fortunately my 996 pulls enough that when I find one that doesn't there is another around the corner. Haha.
Seriously though this car gets way more looks from dudes than from women. I even met a great girl when driving my tacoma and next date when I pulled up in my 996 she said "I am not really into the loud porsche lifestyle". Haha, I said "yeah the fab speeds are pretty loud, see ya later!"
My wife likes riding in the 996. I take it easy with her in the car though! She's driven it a time or two as well. She did great!
Eventually she figured out (based on other people's reactions) that this is a pretty awesome car.
I have the 996 and wife has a 2013 Cayenne. She loves the 996....both to drive and just ride in. The 996 is my daily drive, but if I need to take our pickup truck, she usually takes the 996 out.
I drove from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando and we were 3 adults on the ride, my wife on the passenger seat and my friend 5'10" on the rear "seat" is a 2 hour drive, we have to stop once because he need some circulation to his legs
In rarely occasions, I take the whole family 2 teens 15 and 13, they complain because of the cramped space but once the top is down the only thing I see are smiles.
My wife do not like to drive the car, she said is too much power and second she thinks maintenance cost is ridiculous and she is afraid some 1000 plus bill come if she drive it.
When is time to go out specially at night she love it, she likes to feel the breeze with the top down and get her calm after a long stressful day at work.
My wife only complains about the carpet on the doors. As a result, she refers to it as "Shaggy". Good with everything else, including money spent on mods and maint.
My wife accepts the car because I enjoy it. She rides when I decide to take it out and ask her to join, but I know she would rather be in the softer suspension and adjustable seats of the X3 or Grand Cherokee. She gets a bit scared when I go "too fast" around corners. But she completely supports my hobby so that's good. She can't drive manual so I don't have to worry about that aspect of it.
Overall she's a good sport about having the car and is starting to realize how amazing it is.
My wife loved the 996 and she occasionally drove it. She misses the sound of the Fister sport mufflers and she is encouraging me to put an aftermarket exhaust on the 997 TT. She also loves riding in the TT, especially with the top down. She hasn't driven it yet.
For any kind of chores or shopping, we tend to drive her SQ5.
My wife enjoys riding in mine. Well go to dinner, friends, or PCA organized runs. On the last PCA run we were hauling it through the twisties of the Blue Ridge mountains and I kept asking if she was okay with our speed. She was hanging on pretty tight but said she was great. She also said if she wasn't observing a couple of 911s moving the same rate of speed in front of us, she'd have thought I was crazy and would have been yelling at me to slow down.
This coming from a woman who's DD is a Lexus LS-F.
The future missus likes it ok but is probably more of a G37 Coupe type. She does a nice job of shifting (having learned to shift on a John Deere...) even in spike heels.

My wife can drive it whenever she likes, although she prefers to ride in the 996. Her DD is a manual 330i ZHP, and enjoys a spirited drive, but at a lower pace than I do.
She also rides sportbikes, and is an understanding partner, who allows me to indulge in the admittedly costly hobbies I enjoy.
I would rather be in a '12 Touareg with 4 people and gifts than a 996.
While the 996 is a versatile car, it doesn't make it more comfortable than other vehicles better suited for certain uses.
Girlfriend used to really like it, but now has grown quite tired of the squeaky brakes (track pads). I kind of want an e39 M5 now just to have something fun but comfy with 4 doors. I wouldn't replace the 996 with it though.
My wife "Heidi" hates mine because she is jealous I spend more money and time on my 996 "Linda" than her. She tolerates it though and even drives it to work occasionally...She has accepted my hobby.
My wife and I rarely head anywhere together without the 3 kids in tow so she likes it because if we are in the 996 then we are probably headed out for dinner alone.
I don't like taking the 996 to dinners because many of the restaurants valet and i just wont subject my car to that. It also limits my drinking as my wife cant drive it. I was talking to my wife some more about this and think it was the winter coats and kids wanting to hold and play with their toys. Back when we were single she loved taking drives in my boxster.
The girlfriend absolutely loves the 996 cab. She seems a bit sad any time I have to pick her up in my company car instead. It's a 2014 Ford Explorer 4x4 so not terrible but definitely not the 911. Maybe once I find a car seat that fits the 996 will get some more use with the girlfriend and her daughter. I know she would definitely appreciate that.
My wife thoroughly enjoys riding in the 996. She prefers the C4S because of the ride with the touring suspension but usually will tolerate the C2 with the M030 sport suspension.
I made a thoughtless choice two months ago, she was violently ill from chemo and I rushed her to the ER. I already had the C2 out and had left it in the driveway so we jumped in and took off. There she was with the puke pan on her lap heaving away. She did lose her patience and blurted out a J.C. - I hate the way this car rides, if I wasn't already sick this f***king car would make me sick.
A day later we are sent to the hospital and she politely says "can you drive me in the blue one, it rides so much nicer, and you can use my Handicap permit to park, the parking spaces are really wide". Believe it or not we've had a chuckle or two over that episode.
Do it! Those are another fantastic performance car bargain these days. I love my e39 M5 and drive it more than the 996. It's a great car for around town and for road trips too. And is still a pure drivers car. The motor is sublime!!
My wife thinks that if we drive in it together we will die in some sort of apocalyptic crash, leaving our sons orphaned.
Along the same line of thought why POTUS doesn't fly on the same aircraft as VPOTUS.
I simply stopped asking why and I no longer argue.
Her best comment was "I know you can drive this car like this, just don't do it while I'm in it."
Silotwo, prayers for you & the Mrs. hope she's a tough gal, these are not good times.
My wife holds 4 Land Speed Records, set in my old black 996... She isn't your normal accountant. 600HP Cayenne Turbo daily driver, but she loves to see triple digits in my old Porsche built MB 500E too.
Hell Yes!! Just finished a restoration 4 months ago. Building my own version of a 6.5 engine for it over the winter, too.
Best car ever and it'll blister all my stock 911s as factory with 200K miles on the clock!
My wife loves the car, and even drives it occasionally. It's the first of my cars that she's driven on her own (manual transmission). Sure it's loud and rides rough, but she's willing to endure it because I love the car, and she likes the feeling of being pushed back in her seat by the acceleration, and the sound of the engine.
Oh, and it looks pretty cool, too.
That's not me... I am building mine from an original 119 engine base, not using a newer engine.
All the AMG development we've been doing to address cylinder issues have me lots of ideas.
