Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a fellow PCA members 996 Cabrio in my garage with a convertible top malfunction. Im looking for suggestions on next steps to troubleshoot. The clam shell fully opens and the front latch unlocks, but the top doesn't retract. Thanks in advance Kazul

POST 2Original post

Sound like the motor is kicking in? Have you checked the hydraulic oil reservior? If you hear the motor turnin then it may be a lack of hydraulic fluid in the reservoir. If not, may be the motor. That was my issue, although mine was working intermittently.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

the motor is kicking in. However I do have a question or more so I want to clarify..... Does the hydraulic motor actuate the clam shell and the locking clamp? The motor shuts off once the clam shell opens and the latch has unhooked. If I continue to press the down button the motor turns back on and attempts to start the lowering cycle for the roof but nothing happens then the motor shuts back off.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Update: Nhurley81 Thanks for the feedback and for helping me in the right direction. It appears the clam shell is operated by an electric motor. The hydraulic motor is turning on but the fluid appears low. I will search for the procedure to top off fluid.

POST 5Original post

Before you go to all that trouble make sure you have a very healthy battery on board. Plus try the same action via the door key.
