I used the head unit to power the 4" and an Alpine amp split in three channels to run the door speakers and two 6" JL Audio subs in a box behind the seats.

Hi all, my 2001 996 C2 Tip Cab came with the basic (4 speaker) stereo system and I'd like to improve the sound, so I've just picked up a pair of door cards with the speaker grills in to add a pair of mid ranges (I've already upgraded the teardrop speakers). The door cards don't have the speakers or enclosures included, and I'm assuming the speaker enclosures will be the best bet for a good fit and sound for aftermarket speakers. So my first question is, which type of speaker enclosure fits my door cards and my second is, what aftermarket speakers should I buy to fit in the enclosures? Or, as the speaker enclosures sit inside the door, will all of the 996 speaker enclosure types fit inside my doors and behind my new door cards? If you are just improving sound and adding an amp, use a 5-1/2" speaker that is the same brand as the ones you replaced in the dash. You can use the Haes enclosures.

6.5's fit too, but for either diameter speaker make sure the speaker depth fits the enclosure. I used Polk Audio DB651s Slim-Mount 6.5-Inch Coaxial Speakers.

Thanks for the speaker advice. Just to be clear - my car doesn't currently have door speakers, I've bought door panels that have the speaker grill, but there are no enclosures fitted. The first task is to determine which enclosures will fit my doors - will any of them fit?

My bad, it was 6.5's that I used in my doors. I went with Boston Acoustic coaxial for the doors and 4" in the dash and back panels. I used the head unit to power the 4" and an Alpine amp split in three channels to run the door speakers and two 6" JL Audio subs in a box behind the seats. My car came with the Hi-Fi option, so my enclosures looked like the Haes units.
