Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just guessing here, but i think that the "ims" that was replaced at 24k was just the outer flange and not the actual bearing itself so double check what work was actually performed.
Leading evidence: 'Replace just guessing here' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check rennlist' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I absolutely DON'T get the paranoia of dropping the transmission to install a new IMSB in a car with a clean oil pan and filter that is being monitored (perhaps by a guardian), but DO think it is prudent to take the opportunity to replace any IMSB bearing that has over say 25K miles on it if the transmission is down anyway...

I paid my local indy around $450+ (labor) to do: pump, tank, t-stat, belts, lines/hoses, flush/fill/bleed.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Looking at a one owner car that all service has been done at dealer. Car has 62k miles and at 60k miles had a clutch, brakes and tires done. IMS was done at 26k miles, so that is mostly what have been done I will be looking at the records this week to see what little stuff been done also. How much is it to do the AOS and water pump? Is there anything else at this age and mileage I should look for? Frank

My indy insists on OEM parts only so I bought them from Pelican and/or Sunset. The WP was the most expensive item, below is the list from Sunset). Hoses/lines were sourced by my indy
Water Pump $233.89
Gasket for Water Pump $6.14
T-stat $38.97 (gasket $3.70)
Coolant – gallon $26.81 (need two)
Expansion Tank/Coolant Reservoir $95.59
Cap for Tank/Reservoir $15.96
Serpentine belt $31.80
Thank you very much. Do you know how much the AOS cost installed? I think that if I do all this and what he did 2k miles ago all the basic stuff would be done. Frank
Everything. Any part or component can go bad at any time. While most don't you can drive around with your eyes, ears, even nose shut (well, you know what I mean) thinking because something is new or has less than xx,xxx miles it can't or won't go bad.
Even if you renew the water pump, the AOS, expansion tank, there are the coolant hoses, the heater core, radiators, oil/water heat exchanger and a bunch of gaskets, seals, hose fittings, o-rings and what have you any one of which can at any time leak or cause problems.
So they did the clutch at 60K and didn't replace the IMSB because it was done at 26K? That's less than ideal... That would have also been the ideal time to replace the AOS.

My opinion, you will here others (lots of them, in fact).
Where the car was bought new has also been who has done all service. Owner said that he would take it in for a service and the dealer would call back with $2k worth of things to be done and he did everything they advised him.
Don't worry too much about the 'what should I do' stuff... It's easy to get lost in what
could
go wrong.
A clean, one owner, 62k mile fully maintained 996 C2 is
great
car. Buy it if you like the color, condition, and price. I loved mine...
Do what is due if it hasn't been done. Filters, plugs, serpentine belt, brake bleed. I would consider coolant and transaxle fluid just based on age. If you get into replacing everything that COULD go wrong you will spend a fortune, and the one thing that you didn't replace will fail anyway.
Biggest thing - DRIVE IT!

Purchasing a used Porsche is an investment since its pricey to repairs. I would recommend you pay the dealership $160.00 or so to have the (one hour) car checked out in your name just incase you don't purchase the car... if you know what I mea? or have the seller do it. Another option is to get extended warranty from a reputable insurance company... Check them out with BBB. Some will have the car checked out if there are issues before hand they will not sell you a warranty, and others will have you wait a period of time before you can file a claim. Either way you will be covered at a small cost, instead of an outrageous one that will make you wondered or can't sleep. Check Rennlist for topics on Warranty Insurance, especially from Porsche. In all case don't believe anyone who sell a car privately, not everyone maintains their vehicle the same way. Also, There are many reasons why people sell their vehicle to you with a smile..
