Jake must have used the same company we do, when he had them made up.

There should be a switch on the dash that has a test function to see if it's working properly.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hello all. Newbie to the forum and Porsche's in general. Picked up a pretty nice 1999 911. Some service records but nothing that shows the IMS being replaced. While washing the car I came across a little silver metallic decal in the door jamb that says " IMSG0836". Hoping, ofcourse that this means there is an aftermarket IMS bearing already installed. Google searches reveal nothing and a call to LN engineering confirmed its not one of theirs. Anyone here have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I doubt it has anything to do with Ims retrofits.
the 1999’s don’t even need them in my experience. The bearings in those are pretty robust.
‘A white 996 is super nice imho.
Just to throw a spanner - my LN Pro retrofit came with two stickers like that as well as the other larger silver/black sticker which is now in my service book.
Call LN Engineering tech support or submit a ticket online, they can tell you if they have sequences like that. They've always been super helpful to me.
FWIW, a few years ago, I had the OEM IMSB replaced in my '99 Mk !...primarily for "peace of mind" But the shop who performed the work lost the LNE decals!. While I have retained all the paper work and receipts and am confident about the work performed (Dual Row Pro Retrofit), I'm still upset about their carelessness.

Thanks to all for the replies. I did call LN and they don't recognize it as theirs. I even called Pelican to see if its perhaps one of theirs. No luck there either. May just go ahead and replace it in time just for peace of mind. I'll post pics of the car shortly. Its a white 99 with the aerokit and Fikse wheels. 83,000 miles.
I picked mine up yesterday and my stickers definitely don't look like yours. I also have a 99 with a little less miles, 51k and they said everything looked good but its honestly cheap insurance compared to an engine rebuild. Plus if you haven't done the clutch its a parts only job while doing the IMS, RMS. Might want to check out the air oil separator as well since those are a common fail item.
yes agreed. I have an trusted shop nearby preparing a quote for the IMS, RMS, Clutch etc.... In the meantime, what a great car. Drives real solid. No leaks, does not seem to burn oil and sounds real healthy.
yes, ok. I saw that Its the top button on the left side of the climate control. I just read about this. So its supposed to have an alarm as well and the light turns red. To test, looks like I am to press it until in turns red and alarms correct? when its "armed" the light is amber?
first of all, Thank you for figuring this out.Great work! Oil change was done in April. No leaks anywhere. Bone dry underneath the car. And, yes just watched an old youtube video showing how this thing works. Amber light always on to show its "armed". Press it before starting the engine and it beeps and turns red to test it. When your wallet is abut to be emptied, it turns red and sounds an alarm.
FSI has nothing to do with IMSB retrofits (besides pioneering the replacement technique and designing the replacement bearings and "The Solution"), LN Engineering is the company to contact.. If you do happen to get a hold of FSI or even better Jake Raby, I'm sure he'll tell you as much in no uncertain terms...
Yes but in this case FSI would have quickly identified the sticker.
He contacted LN and they where of no help. Any way, the mystery has been solved with out FSI being bothered...
The IMS Guardian was a product manufactured and sold by Flat 6 Innovations many years ago. I didn't even realize they had serial numbers associated with them to tell you the truth. None of my staff would have been aware of that fact or been able to identify it as most of them didn't work for me when the Guardian was originally sold or have ever seen one.
Hi Charles. just to be clear, when I called LN yesterday, the person was very interested and willing to help. Just didn't recognize the serial number and that is understandable. Great customer service. What a great resource this forum is!
Thought that sticker did look like an LN one - it was confusing when they said it wasn't theirs initially...
Renlucca, did they give you anything LN when they returned your car?? Sounds sus...
It looks like one of ours, but it isn't. IMSG stands for IMS Guardian. Jake must have used the same company we do, when he had them made up.
The IMS Retrofit says IMSR and IMS Solution says IMSS.
We have seen registrations of IMS kits with all the serial number stickers sent to us by the shop, rather than having placed one on the car, or worse yet, the shop throws them away.
We do not reissue serial number stickers as we have had to flag serial numbers in our system when shops purchase kits and just rob the serial number, then return the kit to whatever wholesaler they bought it from as "unopened". There are some very shady people in this world.
I recognised the sticker as it looked like two I received - i'm coming up to 5 years on my IMSR Pro so next year will be an upgrade to the IMSS
whilst i've got you Charles - do you offer the rebate for the IMSR to IMSS for Australians??
Happy to correspond via PM if that's preferred
Sorry to divert the conversation OP!
Thanks again to all for the replies. here are some pics of the oil drain plug with wires and the car. not the best pictures as its indoors. ( raining here in Seattle) how shocking.
That is a great question - no one has ever asked us that one. I suppose if a qualifying registration and rebate was submitted, you would receive the gift certificate as would anyone else, but shipping would be cost prohibitive for most items. Let me give this some though and discuss with your international distributors on how this could be handled differently.
For those who do not know what he's talking about, we offer a mail in rebate for those replacing their original LN IMS Retrofit (or competitor's product - not the original Porsche IMS) with an IMS Retrofit or an IMS Solution:

Jeebus! Maybe a no return policy is in order if the product is not defective? I know it's a harsh way of dealing with this but I would totally understand it.
