Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've seen this on a 2000MY GT3 road legal track car that was for sale and thought 'yeah right...' when the owner told me it was how the factory fitted the actuator.

Replaced my Front Trunk actuator on my 03 C2 and found that it wasn't mounted with screws/bolts, it was wedged in with FOAM!!!

I worked as a Mitsubishi Master Tech for 10 years, they use 10 bolts to hold the A/C compressor in place, Porsche uses 3, difference in manufacturer philosophy.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Replaced my Front Trunk actuator on my 03 C2 and found that it wasn't mounted with screws/bolts, it was wedged in with FOAM!!! What was Porsche thinking? When I put the new one in I looked for holes to screw it in, nada. Don't believe me, here's the pic:

POST 4Original post

Yeah... Well its not a bad idea. Foam is there to protect from vibrations and shocks and the actuator doesnt have to be mounted on something solid to work. Its easy to access and take out for repair. I guess if it was bolted the title of this post would be: Porsche why such a difficult to acces part for something so simple.

POST 5Original post

Maybe that's a special USA edition one, my RoW 04' 996 doesn't have anything like that

POST 6Original post

Dampening technology using "space-age" materials.

POST 7Original post

That could be the super secret squirrel foam developed from alien spacecrafts found in the Black forest near the town of Baden-Baden in the early fifties. It was their Roswell incident... Actually, it is surprising.

POST 8Original post

Haven't you asked Porsche about this? It's made of a secret aerospace material manufactured in the hidden caves of Stuttgard Germany. Don't disrupt it! You could have IMS failure.

POST 9Original post

Both my MB SL, ML and E Class had similar pieces in the trunks or Rear fender side panels. The wiring looms were tight and pieces were left hanging in Dead air space but wrapped similar.

POST 10Original post

I've seen this on a 2000MY GT3 road legal track car that was for sale and thought 'yeah right...' when the owner told me it was how the factory fitted the actuator. I guess he was indeed right!

POST 11Original post

Zip ties and foam have been a racers friend since they were invented. It's just a good, common since, lightweight, functional, way to keep things in place and isolated. Porsche uses zip ties and foam in the same way, doesn't surprise me. I worked as a Mitsubishi Master Tech for 10 years, they use 10 bolts to hold the A/C compressor in place, Porsche uses 3, difference in manufacturer philosophy.
