Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
If you see pitting it is from arch's due to high resistence, clean with sandpaper or other abrasive and reconnect, recharge battery..
Leading evidence: 'Clean with sandpaper or other abrasive' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean with sandpaper or other abrasive' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I was planning to do the clutch, IMS (was already done at 13k miles)/RMS next year, along with any other recommended things.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everyone, it's been awhile since I've been on here, Facebook groups been good. Anyways, I took the 911 on a work trip which was about 1000 miles round trip. Everything worked great, no issues, as I expected.
I parked her Friday evening after work and didn't start it until going into the office this morning about 11. Started just fine, drove about 2 miles to UPS to drop off a package, got back in and nothing. The car wouldn't turn over.
All aux lights lit up, fuel level was at 1/4 tank, but no start. Just clicking like the starter was going, it was sparking. So I tried a second time, still nothing voltage was at about 11.5 or so when it was trying to turn over. Battery is less than a year old.
Spark plugs, coil packs all done last year.
I walked down the road to a gas station, got a gallon in a can and put it in the car. She started right up. Went back to the station to fill up, started normal again. Including the gallon jerry can it was 12.35 gallons total.... So I did have about 4 gallons in the tank.
Any insight into this, similar problems?
Crossing my fingers it was just a fluke.
Thanks
Is it a C4 (or C4S)?
The tank in the AWD cars is shaped in such a way that, under 1/4 tank, the fuel gauge is just guessing. It has stranded people before.
Apparently there is a way to re-calibrate it. I just make sure to fill before I get into the last 1/3 of the tank.
It's a c2, 99'
I was thinking starter, but it doesn't struggle and usually starts very quick.
I'm thinking it could possibly be the fuel pump, injectors or fuel filter... But without any signs or trouble up until now I'm at a loss. No sputtering when on/ driving, no feel of power loss, etc.
To be fair the starter in my BMW sort of died in a similar fashion. It never had that "hesitation" as she got near her final day, just upped and died. A true fighter she was.
Good to know about the BMWs starter. I was planning to do the clutch, IMS (was already done at 13k miles)/RMS next year, along with any other recommended things. Isn't the starter under the intake manifold? Hope it lasts till then if so lol.
Sorry to sound pedantic - but when you say "it sounded like the starter was going"
* It clicked once each time you engaged the key
* It clicked repeatedly / rattled as you held the key in the "start" position, like it was trying to turn over but didn't have sufficient current to actually spin the engine.
* It actually
cranked
repeatedly - i.e. you could hear the engine turning over and you could see oil pressure building - but it never "caught"
* something else?
Seems like for every other car on Earth with a start issue, step 1 is always "try another battery" - but not with the 996's ignition switch - that stupid electrical part is the devil.
Anyway, the questions above aside, for some reason 996 starters become susceptible to heat soak. Once the starter develops this issue, it will fail to crank when the car is hot, but it gets better once the car cools off.
Spoiler alert: If you ignore this for too long, the starter WILL crap out completely. And it will happen in a really inconvenient place. Ask me how I know.
If it "clicks" without actually spinning the engine over, I would first look at battery connections.( if not skip next part)
Remove the connections and look closely "inside" and "around" the post for signs of pitting, (looks like ants taking a bit of the lead). If you see pitting it is from arch's due to high resistence, clean with sandpaper or other abrasive and reconnect, recharge battery..
