Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Purchased 2002 996 last year with new unknown exhaust system. Exhaust tips are recessed behind face of bumper at both sides. Driver's side bumper is melting. The exhaust tip is attached with a flanged connection at a clamp, which only allows rotation, and does not allow extension. Looking for an elongated exhaust tip or an extension elbow to attach an after-market tip. Any suggestions on how to find parts and make repair? See pictures. Thanks,

POST 2Original post

you have 996.1 tips....you need to make sure they are 996.2 (they must fit 2002-2005 996). I had to source new tips when i put 996.2 bumper (like yours) on my 996.1. 996.2 bumpers require longer tips.

POST 3Original post

local muffler shop would be able to set you up.

POST 4Original post

Yikes! Good news is its not difficult to take off the bumper or the tips Depending on what mufflers you have standard tips might not work. First thing I would do is inspect the mufflers and go from there

POST 5Original post

Why'd you wait so long to address the issue? It needs to go to a muffler shop unless you can weld.
