Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. For small bolts and tight areas i use a kitchen torch for larger stuff i use map gas.
Leading evidence: 'Use kitchen torch' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace buying it directly' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

You're saving a good chunk of change buying it directly from them rather than off the tool truck.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am trying to remove the door lock actuator and the 2 bolts, Torx Plus 40, through the end of the door are stripped. The new TP40 bit came from Amazon today and just cant bite the bolt to loosen it. I tried tapping it in with a hammer and same result. Sprayed some PB Penetrate on it this afternoon to see if that will loosen it enough to get the bolts out.
If not, what other options, other than drilling it out and toe-tapping the hole?
Its harder with a smal bolt but u can weld a nut to the top. I recently got a new welder with dc tig so i can do this easier as it seems stuck bolts have been my life lately. Also u can grind a slot into it and try a flat head. Heat the bolt with a small kitchen torch first. A little heat goes a long way.
I dont have a welder and dont really want to one, right now. Although in the future I may.
How much heat? My soldering iron has a mode to pull the tip off and can use it like a small torch. Would that be enough? Heat them for how long? Never used heat, just penetrating oil or a hammer to break it loose a bit. I dont see these working as the bit is already spinning in the head, not really even catching.
I would try to slot it if the torx is blown out. Use a large blade screw driver with a vise grips locked on it to see if u can break it free or even a flat blade in an electric impact driver. That small torch will work i would heat it for at least a minute. For small bolts and tight areas i use a kitchen torch for larger stuff i use map gas.

Are you talking about the door latch? I'm not sure what the actuator is. If it's the latch, those two bolts are triple square, not torx. Please ignore if you're referring to something else.
Impact driver might work well too.

Those are not torx fasteners. Those are #8 triple squares. They are not the same as a 12pt or torx.
Here is an amazon link for the correct socket set you will need.
When looking at the tutorial on pelican parts, it mentioned the bolts were "Torx Plus 40," not the standard torx bit.
It seems to fit snug, just the bolts seemed stripped already.
Looks very much like the torx plus.
True, that's just what I went with as the torx 40 was a bit too small and the torx 45 was a bit to big.
I guess I will be buying a triple square set of sockets
Here is photo from a write up I wrote on how to replace the door latch. Do your fasteners look the same? Full write up here:

Everything i got to originally looks the same. I assume you are correct with the bit size needed. I guess another Amazon order will be placed. Good thing the weather is great and I've had the top down basically since mid February.
Thanks
The threads have blue locktite from the factory, so they will be difficult to break loose. If you plan on replacing the door lock assembly, you can just drill out the heads off the screws since they thread only into the door lock assembly. Replacement mechanism does not come with new screws, just fyi.
If your going to be the DIY guy, these cars need some unique tools, and it pays to have them.
Amazon is great at getting them quick when you can't find them locally.
SV, excellent write up!
Thanks
I've come to realize this. It's not the first time I've had to purchase new tools from there. Of course I'm not patient and would prefer going to the local Home Depot and getting them if I can.
The set I posted is from VIM tools; they are the private label manufacturer for brands like Mac Tools, Snap On/Blue Point, and Matco. You're saving a good chunk of change buying it directly from them rather than off the tool truck.
You can find more tool truck brands here.
