Check all the records on the car and if the original water pump has not been replaced, I'd think about proactively replacing that to avoid a bigger issue later.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

35 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all! been lurking around this forum for a little over a month now. I was in the market for a newer sedan and had almost decided on one when my friend told me he was selling his Porsche. Timing couldn't have been worse because my wife just gave birth to our 2nd son. Apparently p-car's are not that practical for a family of 4 (says the wife). Well, after much convincing and explaining that carseats CAN fit in the rear seats she caved and I am the proud owner of a 2001 C2 as my dd. I just installed the clear sidemarkers so i was waiting for those to come in before i posted any pics (i know how picky you guys are). A ton of great info here helped me purchase the car. Here are some specs/options/info: -arctic silver/black interior -heated memory perforated seats (are all heated seats perforated?-can't find much on this) -PSM -aluminum faced dials, shifter, e-brake and center console, door sills (really like the look of these over the standard black) -rear wiper -front washers -18" sport design wheels From a service/stat perspective: -80k miles. I am the third owner-purchased from a good friend who had it since 2005. -All maintenance records--from Porsche dealer. Any recommendations on Indy in Walnut Creek, CA area? -New Coolant Tank - 10,000 miles ago -New Clutch - 10,000 miles ago -RMS - 10,000 miles ago -New Rotors & Pads - 1000 miles ago -New Tires - 1000 miles ago -IMS - 400 miles ago (right before i purchased it--unfortunately he didn't do the upgrade only the seal!) -Oil change - 400 miles ago -Break line flush - 400 miles ago All in all--very well maintained. Cosmetically its interior is in great shape. Exterior is in very good shape as well. No major dings/scratches except for the front fender which has some nice chips from being a dd for the past 5 years. Not sure if i should have it refinished or get a new one. I wasn't really worried about the high mileage as i had all the service records. I knew i was going to be using it as a dd as well and the price was right for my first p-car. I think i got a steal actually-- $17k! mostly due to the friend angle and mileage but i haven't seen anything close to this with some of the recent maintenance and options it has. What i do know is that I'm hooked. Can't stop thinking about this car. Never have i looked forward to driving this much. Thats it for now. Horrible pics by the way....more pics to come later. Thanks and goodnight!

POST 2Original post

beautiful and extremely clean looking. Love the wheels

POST 3Original post

Great intro. and with pics. congrats to you. The price was very good along with updated maintainence. Nive looking Porsche, welcome to the Rennlist fold.

POST 4Original post

Great looking Car!!! Check all the records on the car and if the original water pump has not been replaced, I'd think about proactively replacing that to avoid a bigger issue later.

POST 5Original post

When she says it time for a diaper change you better leap !

POST 7Original post

Nice, welcome "-IMS - 400 miles ago (right before i purchased it--unfortunately he didn't do the upgrade only the seal!) " and THAT is why you dont take it to the dealer for service - all that work, every bit of it and didnt get the new bearing oh well... FWIW i had 120k on my 996 with the stock bearing so at the next clutch job you can add it in. your pics make it look really "jacked up" did you re-size them...? anyhow welcome - she's a keeper, enjoy!!

Great advice--that's why i'm here! You are right! I think its the angle of the pics bc i've never noticed that before. Need to check this out right away. Highly doubt its been "raised"...why would you do that? Why do you think my original post was at 3am

POST 9Original post

LOL @ 3am.... diaper changed, just have a quick "check" on RL..... yea, you're addicted congrats on the little one -

POST 11Original post

congrats on the new addtion(s)! Car looks very nice and the price was spot on plus the bonus of some of the maintenance history. As a daily driver, you'll learn plenty about the car and quite often be able to DIY on some of the regular check-ups the car will need. Keep an eye on oil pressure, temps, and an ear on the purr of the flat six. Welcome to RL!

POST 12Original post

Nice looking car. I like the alumalook center console. I can't really see the alumimum door sills in your pic. Can you post another? I'd love to see them. Congrats on the purchase. Looks like you got a good deal, expecially considering all the recent maintenance.

POST 13Original post

Congratulations. Walnut Creek is a great area. Enjoy the Porsche and the family.

POST 15Original post

I hope to be joining you soon as well....still working on that convincing the wife part. Almost had her persuaded last night...but not quite.

POST 16Original post

Geeez, you guys are whipped.

POST 17Original post

Yup...pretty much...that's me. That being said, the Missus has "Bought Me" a 740il, 328i and two sets of custom wheels over the last few years, so I can't complain. We're building the future...so it's just a matter of convincing her that the Porsche will not be a total "money pit".

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 7928554

That's you first mistake...convincing your wife. My advice, buy your Porsche, she'll grow to love it, and all you have to do is say 'sorry'.

POST 19Original post

I brought home my 996 on Mother's day without telling my wife I was even buying it....left almost all day and returned with it... she gave me the finger - twice! you guys need to school your woman !

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

haha--thanks all. I'll try to take more pics today. Forgot to add for options the litronics. Ya-the wife was not happy when i told her i was buying it. Simple rationale--we can't afford NOT to buy this car at this price. We're actually saving money buying the porsche vs. a newer car. she's only ridden in it once. My 2yo loves it though.

Ten years ago this past June, I brought home a new 21' center console boat with a 150hp Merc...on our 24th anniversary, still have it and would do it all over again.

POST 23Original post

My wife agreed on buying a 911 only because she thought I have a disease/addiction to cars and if I don't drive a nice expensive car, I get so stressed out, and she may lose me so she chose the best case scenario. On a side note, she is trying to convince me now to sell the car as an investment opportunity with friends has just surfaced and I must admit, I am thinking about it as it is wiser to do so

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

so--re: seats. Are standard seats all perforated? all heated seats perforated? whats the deal? one issue i noticed so far is that my passenger seat squeeks when it moves back (not front though)...track appears to be clear. Juc

POST 26Original post

Haha, Congrats on the car (looks great) and new family member. Defiantly room for everyone, 2x booster seats in the back of mine... Little cramped when you include the dog though Enjoy the ride. Hey Ed, don't think i'd get away with that one, you don't offer relationship council-ling do you

POST 27Original post

I just make it clear to my wife I was driving Porsche's before I met her and I'm not planning to change anytime soon and she usually knows where to find me... playing with my cars She is actually very understanding about my addiction. Recently I just showed up home with cayenne and she says.. is that ours? I said.. yeah.

Don't you know the Porsche Truth in Purchasing Law, "it is easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission." I asked for permission, PERMISSION DENIED. 6 weeks later, after obviously searching the Net for the right car, asked for permission again, PERMISSION DENIED. 3 weeks later, discussed the car, "Well, honey, when do you think that it would be possible for me to buy another Porsche?" "No time in the near future that I can think of. Let's discuss it again in 5 years." 3 weeks later, bought the 996. Flew down to Houston to drive it home. Wife hasn't said three complete sentences to me in the last 4 days. I didn't even bother asking for forgiveness - knew the answer. But I do LOVE driving the car. For some reason , I wish I had a longer commute, with a bunch of twisties thrown in for good measure. 20 minutes in each direction just isn't long enough. larry

Congrats man, i've been looking for a week, now its driving me crazy- can't sleep even, thats all i think about is buying one of these, and in reality can only afford a 99-2000 with high miles and that is even crazy of me to spend the $$$ on, but hey...i think i NEED IT! lol

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just be careful you don't max out your budget on a high mile car and leave nothing for repairs and general maintenance. There are a lot of good deals to be had now though...good luck.

POST 35Original post

Great price, you can actually buy a new engine, and still wind up with a killer deal. Marc - Time to put the Cayenne into your avatar photo!
