What's involved in replacing a balky Hood Lock Actuator on a 2001 996?

Why is it balky? Have you lubed everything up? Spray some white lithium grease on the hood latch mechanism. Make sure the hood is adjusted correctly. What I mean is - there are two rubber bumpers on the hood. Those determine the pressure against the hood latch. They screw in and out, so start with screwing them all the way in to relieve the pressure on the hood latch and see if it is still balky. Not much involved with replacing the actuator. Simply remove the plastic cover under the front part of the frunk and there it is.

It's not bulky, it's balky. Some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. Some times it will work but won't work again right afterwards. It seems to need to rest before tries. I have read it's a common problem. I'm just wondering if I can replace it myself or if it needs a professional repair.

I tried to find some more information about replacing it. I have a 99 C2 so mine is all mechanical. I cannot really find out where the actuator is located, whether it is under the hood latch plastic cover or whether it is located behind the frunk liner. Maybe just pull back the forward part of the frunk liner and see if it is there on the drivers side of the car.
