I put the switch in the center console horseshoe and ran a wire under the steering column and and just above the "map holder" near the driver's knees.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

This weekend I installed a dash-mounted spoiler switch using a DIY I found on Renntech . I put the switch in the center console horseshoe and ran a wire under the steering column and and just above the "map holder" near the driver's knees. Then, I connected the new switch in parallel with the existing spoiler switch in the footwell. The next morning, I washed, waxed, and did some interior cleaning. When I then took the car out for a drive, the airbag light came on after about 30 seconds of driving. Is this a coincidence, or could I have screwed something up? I did a search, but couldn't find any relevant information. Any help would be appreciated!!

POST 2Original post

Use Durametric, a PST2 or PIWIS tester to get the airbag fault code. On a MY99 car my bet is on either a bad seat belt buckle connector or the airbag control unit has gone bad.

POST 3Original post

How hard is it to replace bad seat belt buckle connectors?

POST 4Original post

there is a lot of info on this over on Renntech - I believe there is an official TSB about it too. the first step is the seat belt recepticle, the second is... I forget, been to long. HOWEVER - that said you messed with the electronics and might have caused it. Have it re-set and see if it comes back, get the code and post it no pics of the waxing?

I guess I'll get the code when I take it in for my impending clutch job. Unfortunatly, it rained on my car after waxing. I posted a pic over in the Delaware PCA Concours thread . That's my cab with the top down.
