Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I just removed the speakers and re-installed the grills (dash only - the rest has been stripped).
Leading evidence: 'Install grills (dash only - the rest has been stripped)' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Fill radio hole' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. I used the empty center stack bin to fill the radio hole when I tried going radio-less.

I think it will be a dash out job to change the vent.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Since I picked up a 996.2 center stack to swap into my '99 C2 (gotta have those cup holders) I figure now is as good a time as any to delete my stereo lol
Whats the benefit to ordering the Porsche "speaker delete grills"? Are they basically non-perforated grills so that dust and dirt dont enter the openings?
Having to order two sets, it would add ~$100 to my project lol
No idea, but by removing the speaker itself and reinstalling the grille, you are eliminating most of the weight. Those suckers are heavy.
I wouldnt be half surprised if the speaker delete grilles were heavier - plastic filling in the holes vs mesh covering them? Sure it is in grams not pounds, but why pay $100 for extra weight.
I used the empty center stack bin to fill the radio hole when I tried going radio-less. It snapped right in.
No radio got old after a while though.
I just removed the speakers and re-installed the grills (dash only - the rest has been stripped). I took a piece of acrylic and made a blanking plate / switch plate for the horn button and the radiator overrides. If I need tunes (for some reason) I have a small bluetooth speaker.
Thats my plan also, for GPS and phone call duties, buy one of the bluetooth speakes that clip to my sun visor. I havent had a radio in my other fun car (1993 Mustang GT) for over 15 years and it never bothered me. I dont even have a charging port for that car, have to lug around a spare battery for my phone whenever I drive it lol
Called the dealer, the speaker delete grills need to come in from Germany. Looks like I'll be making my own from the stock grill covers and some acrylic or fabric backing
prevent anything from accumulating in there and keep the noises from behind the panels quiet?
Either acrylic or fabric, whatever I have laying around. Maybe some lightweight foam from an old gun case
Im doing the same swap in mine next week (the cup holders etc) and Ive been collecting parts for a while. I didnt realise until I tried to fit it the first time but I also needed a later centre heater duct to match up with the later air vents.
Thats a lot of bits! I got all mine from eBay too. You might need the duct part too. Part number in third pic in case you need it. Ive not had a stereo for three years and no plans to fit one 😀
You might be able to trim it back and get them to fit, its gotta be worth a go. I think it will be a dash out job to change the vent. Mines coming out anyway because Im swapping the dash for a black one.
You have 2 problems when changing out the duct to allow the mk2 centre stack:
1 - you have to remove the entire dash AND the large centre v bracket along with the brackets on the floor hump to take it out.
2 - the mk2 air duct not only doesn't match up with the center vent duct, but also the passenger side ducting.
Trust me, I know. We just finished swapping out our mk1 dash for a mk1 dash with glovebox.
To get ot to work on our car we had to xur the tops off the old and new centre ducts and switched them.
Thanks Jim, thats really useful info. Im swapping my whole dash so hopefully will be able to get access but if not its good to know I can cut and combine the two ducts as Id not thought of that!
Cutting the 996.2 vent to mate to the 996.1 duct it is then LOL
Im more worried about mounting the internal metal frame into the 996.2 plastic frame. From what I've read in this thread:
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...rofit-diy.html
Theres extra space that needs to be taken up. Further down in that thread the author mentions using felt tape or similar to prevent any rattles "
as they install rather freely"
We'll see what comes of this install lol
I have a mk1 car And I switched the dash I have with that of a mk2 car. I can't speak about this fellow's experience, but I can tell you that in my conversion everything is tight and snug.
