I do not believe it's the bulbs if they all malfunctioned so close together in time, though I suppose a change/spike in voltage, etc may cause something like this

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

2 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Outcome without a verified action link

First it was the Xenon low beam and halogen high beam at once (peculiar both stopped working at the same time), then the turn signal bulb didn't work (with the faster frequency sound when signaling left), and lastly the fog lights went out.

No unique explicit quoted action; no causal link assigned

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 996.2 with original headlights/bulbs. 65k miles. Almost all the bulbs on the driver's side cluster have gone out/malfunctioned in the last 24hours. First it was the Xenon low beam and halogen high beam at once (peculiar both stopped working at the same time), then the turn signal bulb didn't work (with the faster frequency sound when signaling left), and lastly the fog lights went out. The only bulb that still works in that cluster is the parking light. The passenger side bulbs/light cluster work without issue. Sometimes the green "left turn arrow" on the dash has also come on randomly, even when I am not signaling. There are no other electrical mishaps to date. Any thoughts on where to start? Light assembly was removed, no cracks, connections all look good, clean, no rust. I do not believe it's the bulbs if they all malfunctioned so close together in time, though I suppose a change/spike in voltage, etc may cause something like this Your help is appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Check the fuses and the headlights switch, a known failure part.

POST 3Original post

Remove and reinstall the headlight assembly to ensure that the electrical plug is properly seated. You will get all kinds of wierd behaviors with various lights if it isnt.

POST 4Original post

Nearly certain that it's the headlight switch assembly (the switch inside thr thing you actually turn). It's about $100 or so from rockauto iirc and takes about 15 minutes to switch it out. I had nearly the exact same symptoms and replacing that fixed it 100%.

POST 5Original post

I have a new unopened switch if needed. I can send it back or give a member a good deal. PM if needed.
