Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had my plugs changed althoug it was not required as part of the 30K service and my bill was $900...which I still thought was too much for what's required.

Suggestion
In addition to an oil and filter change you are also looking at replacing the spark plugs--which are a pain to do--air filter, cabin filter, and a thorough check of the car.

I know, and Im certain most of you know, that this service is more checking rather than fixing and that half the stuff could be done by most of us if we had the time, inclination and marginal skills required.

Not exactly chump change but when you play with the big boys there is a price to be paid.

The 30K service is nothing more than an oil change, particle filter change, and several "checks".
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When a company has the same basic design for 40 years, is the worlds most profitable car manufacturer, sells its cars for as much as 100k, and occasionally much more, and has lines outside the doors to get one, you know they are doing something right.
And when guys like us drop 50K on one four or five years old and try to convince ourselves and significant others that we got a bargain you just have to tip your cap to Ferdinand.
You also know, Im sure, that the servicing of these cars by Porsche dealers, is also a major profit center. So, with some reluctance, I visited my local dealer and inquired about the 30K service, which will be coming due soon. I know, and Im certain most of you know, that this service is more checking rather than fixing and that half the stuff could be done by most of us if we had the time, inclination and marginal skills required.
Prices for the 30K service, based on what Ive seen on the board ranges from about $600 to $1,000. Not exactly chump change but when you play with the big boys there is a price to be paid.
When I asked my friendly dealer the cost of this service I was quoted the price of $1500.
Not wanting to look like a cheapskate I told my service advisor I would make the arrangements in the near future. It was pointed out that with adequate notice a loaner car would be provided or I could wait in their lounge and feast on Dunkin Donut leftovers that had been picked over by the service personnel who happened by. Flat screen monitors tuned to some daytime dribble and magazines that were a bit fresher than those in my dentists office were also available.
Oh, and by the way, it was pointed out, the $1500 price includes an oil change. That was mentioned when the price was quoted. (Believe me, Im not making this up.)
As I sped of off I wondered whether some Vaseline was also included with the service.
You might want to let people know that your "attachment" is nothing more than a copy of the text you typed into your thread.
As for the 30K service.........
I would have not cowered away but rather questioned what that $1500 gets me and have it broken down. Just going on a "quote" without explanation makes no sense.
That's why the dealers get so much they do for service on these cars......people don't QUESTION!!!!!
The 30K service is nothing more than an oil change, particle filter change, and several "checks". The checks should be no more than 1-2 hours of labor.
You can do the oil change yourself for roughly $65 and change the particle filter for $20. If you want the dealer to do the "checks" pay them for 1-2 hours of labor (similar to a PPI) and you have spend another $200 max.
30K service.......less than $300!
However, like I said, you need to question EXACTLY what the $1500 includes b/c for all you know they have their own "30K" service which includes brake pads, rotors, polyrib belt, etc, etc, etc.
one word for you: Indie
edit: seriously, if you tell us your state, I'm pretty sure there will be one rennlister that will be able to direct you to a "lube free" shop.
Sorry but that doesn't sound too bad for a 30K service a little high but not too bad. In addition to an oil and filter change you are also looking at replacing the spark plugs--which are a pain to do--air filter, cabin filter, and a thorough check of the car. I did all my oil changes when I had the P-car but took it to the dealer for the major services. Not all dealers are crooks and if you build a relationship with your service advisor they will look after you. Don't skimp on the maintenance....I had almost 100K miles on her and those were pretty hard miles and the car never had any serious issues.
Just say no to drugs.
Only for the 99-01
Regardless, here is the pricing so please explain how $1250-1300 in labor for $200-250 in parts doesn't sound "too bad"?
Oil Filter $15
Oil $50-80 depending on pricing
Air Filter $30
Cabin $60
Plugs $50
I agree with Dell.
I had my plugs changed althoug it was not required as part of the 30K service and my bill was $900...which I still thought was too much for what's required. Only using an indy now.
