Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
There could be some minor issues that can be adjusted with price after the PPI is done.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust with price' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'sport suspension' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust with price' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

wow, LSD and sport chassis is most likely the sport suspension.

said the clutch was looked over" sounds to me like an RMS leak, why would otherwise check the clutch?

Suggestion
With a clear record from the PPI and a warranty, you'll be fine but check the possibility of a warranty prior to the purchase if you want one.

A PPI at the local dealership will run me about $200 (i've heard that independent shops are better b/c they tend to go more in depth whereas a dealer will do more of a "safety" inspection looking for possible liability issues but I can't really find one in SLC, UT)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey everybody! I've been reading posts for a few days and decided to join. I have an e36 BMW right now and couldn't find the exact M3 i wanted so I've been seriously looking at 996s for a couple of weeks. I think I've found one I really like. It's a '99 with almost 76,000 miles on it. Black on black with the sportier looking seats and a full carbon fiber interior from the factory. 18" turbo twists. tape w/cd changer. 6 spd. some maintenance records. lately has had new rotors/pads in front. said the clutch was looked over but did not need to be replaced. sorry, has the factory aero kit too
Can't post the link or pictures so if anybody could do that for me it would be swell
It's in Salt Lake City, UT and I'm in Santa Barbara County, CA so that's a bit of a downer but it's like $300 to ship it he said.
Please let me know your thoughts as I am brand new to the Porsche community.
thanks,
Chris

whoops, sorry. $29,900 firm, real firm
he said i can get a 2 year/24k mile warranty for about $1700
please let me know what you guys think about this deal
Some guys really lust after the LSD...
I have know idea what a Sports chassis is
Sound like a good buy, If the PPI check out you'll have a great car. I just know that if you were to ever trade it in you'll lose prob about 5-7k
The car looks real sharp and looks to have quite a few opt.
Why does it have a Calli Plate on it. Is it a dealer car or owner car
The miles on the car don't scare me but I would look into the Warranty. Seems like a cheap price for a warranty
Good luck
thanks
Not that I would plan on it any time soon but why do you say I would lose 5-7k on a trade?
As for the plate, apparently it came from out here in santa barbara which matches up with the plate frame. I actually went to look at a zenith blue 996 (that sold) at that very shop.
Nice looking car and the price is good. Noticed some curb rash all around the close up of the rim. The car itself looks great on the pics. Nice luster to the paint.
Good luck with purchase. I would definately get the warranty for that price.
I mean trade-in at a dealer. He is making $$$ on this car. This price you would see for sale buy owner though.
Edit: Why did the Dealer trade or sale to the guy in UT? I know it happens all the time but thats quite a distance to make a dearler trade or wholesale away. I would think it would sale easy in SBA. Just get the PPI done and make sure there are no Type 2 over revs
Chris, areo kit cars are a little more expensive, so I think the price is fine although there should be lower millage cars out there for the same price.
"... said the clutch was looked over" sounds to me like an RMS leak, why would otherwise check the clutch? However, this is a common 996 issue anyway.
With a clear record from the PPI and a warranty, you'll be fine but check the possibility of a warranty prior to the purchase if you want one.
hah, nah, coming from the bmw community i'm not a big fan of the whole "m" badge on other cars so i think this falls in the same category
thanks to everyone who replied, i think i'm going to go ahead and schedule the ppi and if it comes out good try to get the car
LOL, seems firm. Ya, don't push him , or **** him off. Keep him happy, give a lot of your money.
A little story for ya, kid. When I bought my Twin Turbo about 2 months ago, they seemed firm. After 3 days of negotiating I got my price. If I had taken your approach, I would have handed them an extra $8500.
Great looking car....I happen to like the factory aero kit. The deal is pretty good with the options....carbon fiber package in the cosole is super nice.
Good luck,
J
nobody is gonna buy that car in a real hurry... there are plenty of examples like this car (maybe not where you live)... except the lsd. Take your time. If it PPI OK then, youll have a hot car. GL and keep us posted
It seems you like this car. I would do the PPI first then negotiate the price. There could be some minor issues that can be adjusted with price after the PPI is done. He will see that you are a real buyer and not just taking up this time. I'd bet he will move on price knowing he can move the car that day.
Also if you negotiate price before PPI it's a hell of a lot harder to renegotiate after you find minor problems.
Find out what you have then negotiate
Good luck
Hey guys, bringing this back from the dead because...
this car didn't work out for a few reasons. anyways, I have a few new options i'm looking at and a couple are face lifted 996s. I was just wondering if there were any non-aesthetic advantages to a 2003 996 over a 99. Are the RMSs and intermediate shafts less prone to failure?
