Should I just go for the Car ''as is'', Is the low mileage ,age and steep price worth it for such a low mileage car?, Have the repair records from dealer for first 4 years with no major problems...Any chances of this oil & Coolant mixing again on 2001 models?

We where both aggravated with this problem, my indy tech (Porsche Mercedes Audi Bmw specialist) said that we where better to let car go, because Porsche's solution in many cases was to replace entire engine on waranty, that just opening the motor was a job without garanteed success to solve this problem.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi All,
Wife & I had a 2000 C2 Cab 6 speed 911, A few months ago, way off waranty, Oil started to mix with coolant, major hose problems etc. We where both aggravated with this problem, my indy tech (Porsche Mercedes Audi Bmw specialist) said that we where better to let car go, because Porsche's solution in many cases was to replace entire engine on waranty, that just opening the motor was a job without garanteed success to solve this problem. Porsche dealer sort of confirmed this shyly,To make a long story shorter, Sold the car (declaring it's problem to new owner who owned an accidented front end 996 , he put his old engine in ours) Could not find a good used used 996 on our budget,. My Neighbor 's leased Bimmer 330ci cab came due at a good buyback, so we bought it. Good car 6 speed M Package, BUT! After a month, it's No Porsche
Well we found a documented 2001 Cab Tiptronic with 30,000 documented kilometres! that's about 19000 Miles!
Problem One, Price is a little steep for a car that's 6 years old (2001) Being in Canada, this car was stored each winter ,October to mid April explaining such low mileage.
They are looking for about $50,000 CDN which is about $44,500 US Dollars, this for a car without any warranty.
Problem 2: Taking a bit of a hit moneywise by trading in bimmer after a month which is also BMW warantied till 09 or 160000kms .
Drove the Porshe, Visual inspected, showroom paint, No Leaks Brakes a little stiff, Tiptronic Good, Top & Back window (plastic Clean) Tires Ok, Oil Clear, Coolant clear...
Am thinking of platforming Car to Porsche Dealer 250 miles away,(this is Canada! Big Country, few people, 3 Porsche dealers in Quebec, this is the closest one from where this car is.) Would cost me about $400.00 Platform plus inspection?????4 or 500$
Should I just go for the Car ''as is'', Is the low mileage ,age and steep price worth it for such a low mileage car?, Have the repair records from dealer for first 4 years with no major problems...Any chances of this oil & Coolant mixing again on 2001 models? How about the Tiptronic? Reliable?. Porsche dealer knows owner (wife of excecutive) she is now driving an Aviator and does not seem to be wild , she's in the lower 60s in age??? but who realy know?
Sorry for this long post, no short way to explain it, your comments truly appreciated! BTW, saw the original sales contract for this car, They paid over $129,000 CND for this car in 2001.
Welcome to Rennlist! Wow...didn't take you too long to get the Porsche bug again. And that Bimmer is pretty nice....but you need the P.
Anyhow, the price is high in my opinion. For about the same price you can get an '02....maybe an '03 with a bit more mileage. The mixing issue is here and there....obviously no guarantees on that car if it will rear it's ugly head again. You should also beware the Rear Main Seal issue with low mileage, but that's not the end of the world if you get stuck with that problem....under 1K from what I see here.
If you can't work the price....I would shoot for an '02 or higher. You can get them with more than 19K miles too....as you know...these cars can go for a long time.
Also, I would not send the car out for a PPI.....do some more research and find a local indy mechanic to really go over the car. From what I know, the dealers do a good job with a PPI....but not a great job.
Best of luck.....and if you are concerned about the tip...that's easy....just get another 6 speed!

Hi! Thanks for the reply! Tip :Not worried about, former other car was 04 CayenneS with Tip, just wondering if Tip as reliable on 996s .Price wise .
02s. 03s are dramaticly higher here in Canada Maybe 8 to 10,000$ more than a 2001 with more mileage , blame it on small number of cars sold up here.
Very Big Grey Market of US cars flooding our market. Laws have changed in the past few years and now easier to bring in US cars for Canadian market.
Downside, , Daytime running lights, to be functional, speedometers Miles to KM,Uncertifiable milleage, Accidented, Salvaged cars etc. Lemon law survivors are winding up here. Porsche Dealers frown on servicing these cars, looking upon them as flooding the canadian markets.
Speaking about floods someone up here wound up with a New Orleans flooded salvaged 996 Turbo! US cars resale value ''iffy'' often fetching 20 to 30% less than similar Canadian models, this especialy at certified dealers. NO ANTI ''USA'' FEELINGS just too many local enterpreneurs bringing in 'soso' questionable cars...BMs Mercs also...
