I just had to replace the A/C in my house to the tune of $11,000 so I'm trying to recover from seeing all the mod money go away

If you want them, just follow the instructions in the manual on how to replace the bulbs in the sidemarkers....except you don't need to swap the bulbs....just unplug the housing and swap the entire housing.

I guess I have to admit defeat and replace my pumpkins too.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I was looking at a 997 and a 996. The morning started out with a phone call from a person looking at my M3. The afternoon started out with me making two calls with two offers. One said nay and the other said yay so...........sold the M and bought the P. It's good to be back
Mike.....CONGRATS!!!!! And welcome back to P-car world. What year is that car? I see lots of goodies too....turbo front, painted console, heated seats...aluminum guages and aluminum trim on the lower dash. BEAUTIFUL RIDE!!!! I love those wheels. Leather steering wheel is sweet too...major moola options. Drive it well. You are lucky to sell your M so fast too!
I'll let someone else tell you about the pumpkins......
Jon
Hi Mike....yes....they are actually smoked....eric @ bumperplugs.com sells them. So does Suncoastporsche.com. Relatively cheap mod, and literally takes 3 minutes to swap them out. If you want them, just follow the instructions in the manual on how to replace the bulbs in the sidemarkers....except you don't need to swap the bulbs....just unplug the housing and swap the entire housing.
The smoked markers make the silver cars look FANTASTIC. Look at some of the others who have done this on the board. I had my new side markers delivered before I even took delivery of my car!
Best of luck,
Jon
How do you like the interior?
The Metro Blue has really grown on me and now I find I really really like it
Prob the easiest color interior to keep clean I have ever had
Enjoy
Oh the pumpkins....yes they will be changed. I changed them on my last car and it does look a lot better. I will talk to Eric as I also need to remove the rear wiper
Ha! I'll take that rear wiper off your hands.
JK. The difference between Arizona and British Columbia. Great looking ride. I really like the anniversary cars.
Nice purchase! I have owned an M3 and loved that car but there is a huge difference when comparing the two cars.
I even have the same color scheme as you and love the blue interior myself.
Good luck with the mods, I will be doing lots myself soon.
I really like the looks of the E46 M3 but there isn't anything about it that reminds me of the 996. The Porsche is in a different league IMO. I have noticed that a couple of people mentioned that my interior was Blue. It is Natural Gray. I took these pics in my garage the day I picked it up. I knew I would be blasted if I posted without pics. I will take better pics later.
Nice car. I thought I was looking at mine then realized you too have a 40th anniversary. It's funny. Before I bought my car, I rarely saw a Porshce. Now that I have one, I see them on a regular basis. Likely just paying more attention. The first weekend I bought mine (2004 40th), I went to Starbucks and noticed 3 other cars that were very similar to mine. I then realized mine was the only 40th anniversary edition there. I had a 2004 M3 and loved the car. I don't think I will go back to BMW because I love my Porsche so much.
From pumpkins to no pumpkins. When I bought my last 996 my son mentioned this was the only Porsche without round headlights. I told him...that's what makes the 996 a special Porsche
.
If I do there isn't a switch. I did either read or was told that the exhaust has two doors that open at speed for power which makes it louder. I'm not sure if that's true or not. Any other 40 owners know?
Mike - I know the 997 X51 package comes with PSE, but I recall the 996 did not. I was wondering if the PO had installed PSE. If you had PSE, you would have the switch with the "goggles" on it.
It's not that comfy here either. Today has been better but the rest of the week has been really warm here too...although not as bad as you guys have it in AZ.
You should come out here for a drive along H1. Nice cold ocean breeze, great windy road with beautiful views
When you install a short shifter kit (SSK) you have to remove the RCC. When I did the SSK the first time the entirte process was about 2 hours. I helped another Rennlister do his SSK about a month ago and it took us 1.5 hours.
Swapping the Rear Center Console (RCC) should not be a problem. Eric will send you uninstall/install instructions. There are about 5 or 6 screws to remove the RCC. You do have to swap out a couple of panels from the old RCC and install them on the new RCC. I would imagine it will take about 1.5 hours, max. BTW - Eric can paint it in the Alumi-look color to match the other Alumi-look pieces in the interior.
The Alumi-look strip on the dash looks good. However, from what I understand it is a little more difficult to install. The scary part comes from having to pop off the existing strips. There have been a couple of DYI threads about the install process. They each took a different approcach. One guy popped off the strips from the front and glued the new strips in place. The other guy took the dash apart to remove the strip screws for the back. I am guessing that Eric will include instructions for that install, also.
BTW - you got any more money you want me to spend?
yeah, I read the same thing when I searched for it. The rip out and glue back in seems a little bit too brutal for my taste.
I have been tempted by the SSK. Haven't made up my mind yet.
I reall would like to get my IPOD to work with the stereo but it doesn't seem that anyone has figured out how to do it in a decent way yet.
Eric and I are already buddies. Ordered alu gauge rings, bumper plugs and the key lock plug (key lock plug is the silliest thing I've ever ordered for a car. The lady just shock her had and walked away when I proudly demonstrated it to her)
Can we spend someone elses money a little too? gr8330, do you have alu gauge rings? That is even more needed than the smoked indicators.
hmm, ok. very nice. I think you have more extra stuff in your car than I have. I even see a nav system in there!
How about sport seats? And aluminim pedals would look nice with all that silver trim in your car.
I know...It's all Tim's fault for all the extra money I've spent. Alu gague rings, bumper plugs, key lock plug, 3.6L muffler mod is aaaaaalll Tim's fault.
I'm blaming Tim for smoked indicators, my new RMS and new seals around all my windows as well (even though the last two were covered by CPO I'm sure Tim had something to do with it somehow.)
Yeah, he phished my log in and password through a fake Porsche website. All posts encouraging you to spend money is really Tim's posts. I'll be contacting the moderator now to have the password reset so we don't have any repeats of this.

OK, guys that's enough flattery! You guys are starting make me blush!
MAtt - you haven't done the SSK yet! You can "kill two birds with one stone" if you install the SSK when you swap out your rear center console. Since you have to remove the RCC To install the SSK, it will only add about 30 minutes to the process. Do it! DO IT!
