Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

48 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just wanted to say hello to all ! Im an avid car guy who has always owned american muscle. Recently sold my boats (30ft Spectre catamaran and a 353 Formula Fastec) and decided to pick up a 911/996. I purchased a 1999 from Chicago Motor Cars and am waiting for delivery as we speak...hopefully Mon or Tuesday...have heard some horror stories about the 99's but based on my budget thats about all i could afford. Found a gorgeous 99 C2 black on black with a factory aero kit that i fell in love with and had to have. Have spent last few days browsing around this site and have found some very informative stuff. Again just wanted to introduce myself. If anyone can think of anything i should becareful with or pay extra attn to with my recent purchase please feel free to chime in !! I have a few pics but there to large to upload... Bernie

POST 2Original post

Good luck and welcome! Post pics when you get the car. My understanding is that the earlier '99 cars (especially those built in '98) had some problems. Look forward to hearing more about it - mileage/options, etc.

POST 3Original post

Yes we need pics. Maybe some as it gets unloaded...

POST 4Original post

Welcome and Congratulations on your new P-car!

POST 5Original post

Bernie, Congratulations and welcome aboard. Your car with the aerokit should look fantastic. I have an early 99 that I absolutely love. Don't worry about the horror stories. There are lots of people (including Porsche Magazine staff) that prefer the early 3.4 non egas cars. They seem to respond very well to performance modifications.

POST 7Original post

Welcome from another new Porsche owner. I love my new "used" car which i have now owned for two weeks. It is a fantasic car which you will love to drive. I envy your areo kit, I wish mine already had it. Good luck and post pictures when you get it.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

have owned a few european cars in the past...95 e-320, 98 528, 00 S430 and a 96 and a 00 vette. sold my boat and need a toy and after renting a 2003 Boxster S in Vegas figured time to look at 911's. the boxster was an incredibly impressive car...couldnt believe how well it rode and ran for what it is (not bashing it in anyway)

POST 20Original post

Welcome and nice looking ride. As for pictures you can right-click on the ones in the add, save them locally and then upload them to this thread, just a thought. Here are some side notes: 1. Lose the pumpkins. 2. You are missing the bottom lip under the Aero Kit's front bumper (this was my situation too and it is needed for the Aero Kit for stability reasons. Here is the part number: 996 505 986 02 G2X. Cost is about $78 and I got it here Dart Auto , or you could get it at your local Porsche dealer. That's it for now. But when you get it definately enjoy driving it.

POST 21Original post

POST 33 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

heyyyyyyyyyyyy !! looky looky...im not a dope !! it worked LMFAOOOOOOO

POST 34 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

received her yesterday at about 6pm...and after my brothers wedding rehersal proceeded to put approx 200 miles on her...(about 10-12 of them were on a series of jug handles or clover leafs) and lemme tell ya what an awesome car. my only complaints are a slight buzzing/vibration from the rear wing spoiler and the lack of punch from the stereo...but with the stereo off, windows down and tach between 55 and 6500...thats music enuff...for now anyway...oh and the horn doesnt work...grrrrr

POST 35Original post

Very nice...but it seems the car is always at an angle...doh!...that's the photographer...clear sides soon!

POST 36 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thinkin the photographer musta been a lil "crooked"...lol also wheres the best place to acquire proper floor mats.

POST 38Original post

i usually don't like factory wheels, but those are def one of the better looking ones out there and they should be since it's by bbs withtheir classic mesh centers congrats man welcome to da club

POST 39Original post

Yes....those are nice looking wheels! I think they are called Sport Classic II's......must be a pain to keep them clean.....welcome again. J

POST 40Original post

i don't get why people think it's tough to clean mesh centers cuz it's really not (Had the LMs and Fikse FM10s before). it makes maybe an extra 30 seconds or so per wheel as compared to a simple 5 spoke, 6 spoke. the look is well worth the 2 mins. classic.

POST 41Original post

Nice looking ride! Glad the instructions helped!

POST 42Original post

Looks sweet. Always have liked the look of the "taco"

POST 43Original post

Very beautiful car. I love the amber lights against the black. Congrats, and enjoy it in good health.

POST 44 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

got caught in my first rain storm with her and was a little leary on what to expect. UNFRIKKENBELIEVABLE !! Car is simply amazing even in the teeming rain...diggen it so far

POST 45 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

was curious if there is anyway to get the service and warranty repair history for this vehicle..just for piece of mind. also wondering the best way to make her sound a lil better without causing any problems..

POST 46Original post

Bernie, Welcome to the funny farm and very sweet looking ride. I hope to see you out in the Jersey roads as I am in Pt Pleasant often.

POST 47Original post

Even though I had to tilt my head back and forth to get a good look at the car it does look very clean for a '99... good deal. Welcome and enjoy the 996!!

POST 48Original post

Unfortunately Porsche does not keep a central database (one of the only car manufacturers that doesn't) of repair work done at dealerships. You have to know who did the work on the car and call the service manager there and ask them to send you a report of what they have done. If you do not have any idea who did the work you're not going to find it. One thing that can give you a start though is to call PCNA and give them the VIN. They will be able to tell you who the original delivering dealer was. Call that dealer and see if there is any work history.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
