Suggestion

I don't see why an engine replacement should hurt the value if it was defective and replaced by Porsche.

Suggestion

Bottom line is that $73K is a lot of money, and if you don't feel comfortable spending that kind of money on a car with a replaced engine, move on.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Posting here as well as 997 forum, as I'm currently driving a 996! Looking at this 05 - 11k miles, already on engine #2 and owner #2. 2005 Porsche 997 Carrera S 6-speed Slate Grey/Full Black Leather. Heated Adaptive Sports Seats. Bi-Xenon lights, Boss Premium Sound System with remote 6-CD changer, 19" factory alloy wheels with wheel caps and colored crests,Carrera S rear insignia factory delete. 11K miles. All service records and books. Southern California car with no history of accidents or repaints. Perfect condition, always garaged. No track usage. Full Factory warrantee including towing service until October 2008. So is the seller smokin' crack to stick to $71k for this car, based on the owner history and engine replacement? What do you guys think - what's the bottom line $$$ for a car with this pedigree? Anything else to look for after the engine swap? Any help much appreciated. Chris.

POST 2Original post

I don't see why an engine replacement should hurt the value if it was defective and replaced by Porsche. The car does look very nice

POST 3Original post

just sold an 06 S, black on black, 4300 miles, 6 speed, seat crests, and centers, cd changer, NO NAVIGATION, NO POWER SEATS for $73500.

POST 4Original post

The car has a history, and the question is do you feel comfortable with that history to the tune of $73K? Personally I wouldn't let the engine replacement dissuade my purchase decision, assuming that I otherwise liked the car. Moreover, you still have a lot of warranty remaining to protect you in the ulikely event that another problem arises. Bottom line is that $73K is a lot of money, and if you don't feel comfortable spending that kind of money on a car with a replaced engine, move on. You have lots of choices in that price range.

POST 5Original post

Any idea why the first engine immediately failed on this car? (I would call under 11k miles immediate in terms of the normal life of an engine). Gorgeous car, though.

POST 6Original post

Engine replacement is a non issue IMO. If you like it and think it is worth 71k then I would go for it. There are 997S out there cheaper likely with more options, but each market is different. I just went from the 996 to 997S a couple of weeks ago, and it is a move I highly recommend for a number of reasons. Get a PPI and see if the owner will get the vehicle history print out for you if you're really interested. That said if you're not comfortable there are some really good deals on CPO low mileage S cars out there.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Extra sooty exhaust on one bank and excessive oil consumption (1 qt in 500-800 miles)

POST 9Original post

That car is gorgeous. I would consider having a brand new engine a plus. I'm probably not the best person to render an opinion. The prior history on my car didn't bother me....
