Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My wife's just got a 2002 996 a few weeks ago. Yesterday the alarm went off for no apparent reason. It reset fine, but now when setting the alarm I get the short horn beep and the double LED flashes indicating something is open. After extensive opening and closing and checking lights. I discovered that the Passenger door window doesn't retract slightly when opening the door, So I am guessing that is the source. Any help would be appreciated.
Also can anyone recommend a mechanic (other than the dealer) in the Pasadena, CA area?
Welcome to Rennlist. Thanks for posting the pic. Please tell us a little more about your car. Miles, optios, ect.
Try this to reset the window. Turn the ignition on to accessory so all the electrical functions work. Lower the passenger window and keep pressing the button for 15 seconds after the window is completely lowered. Then raise the window and, once again, keep pressing the button for 15 seconds after the window is completely closed. You may have to do this a couple of times. This "may" reset the window.
If that does not fix the problem, then it is most likely your window micro switch that has gone bad. There have been a few other threads on this problem, so if you need additional info, do a search on window.
Here is a diagram from the PET showing the door handle assembly and the micro switch.
Sorry, can't help the the CA wrench.
It worked! I searched interior lights and alarm, but thought it must have been a closed door sensor. The alarm several times went off spontaneously. We were in Palm Springs and the car was parked in the sun in 119 degree weather, I wonder if that had something to do with it.
We've had the car for about 6 weeks got it with 30k on the clock, now has 32. Seal Gray with a black interior. She LOVES it. Here's another pic from the front.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you, for the tip!
Numi - you are welcome. I am glad that helped you get the situation resolved.

Very nice! Oh, yeah, the car looks good too!

Actually my wife is threatening to become a member as well, it is her car after all, but as her *service advisor* I appreciate all your help.
Cheers!
