Everything on my car I've got used, the shop that did almost everything is the Speed Gallery, they saved me thousans of $, and if you want a race car look and you're in the LA area they're very good and very reasonable.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Gents,
My brother is just about to purchase a 99 C2 narrow bodied car, and are already planning a programme of modifications. He wants to go for 19" Desin Sport wheels (997) and really drop the car. The car will be used on the road only. He researched lots of threads, but none of them deal with lowering the car by this amount. What are his options?
Many thanks in advance.
I would of NEVER gone to 19" wheels if it wasn't because I also changed suspensions to support that kind of mod. Even with the H&R coilover suspension mod I'm still going to probably purchase an additional set of 18" wheel so I can stop wincing everytime I hit a bump.
Agreed. We fully intend to have the correct suspension to support the upgrade to 19's, hence the question. What he really wants is eliminate the visual gap between the tyre and fender, giving it the Cup car look. How much have you lowered your one by?
The shop adjusted the suspension so that the rear kinda trails the front, so the front is lower than it probably should... the answer is... wait I'll measure it
Front the fender at the top of the wheel is 25" to the road in the front and 25 1/2" in the rear... know what I mean?
also added a wing last week which coincidentally is the Schnell replica of the 2000 GT3R cup car wing... eh eh eh I just bought a AutoArt model of that car you schould look at that if you might want to be true to the original?
These pics are: One is my new wing on my car, the AutoArt model of the 2000 GT3R 996, and the real thing.

I have no idea, I'm sure they might, but if you go to 3T Motorsport, they sold me the wing and installed it for free (it's not that difficult, but they wrapped the original trunk lid so I could store it) these guys were great! the whole thing cost me $750 out-the-door (it was used from a show car never tracked and already painted silver) the best one i've seen around... in terms of fit on a scale 1-10 (10 being OEM) it's an 8 and it's good enough for me.

if you want ***SLAMATION NATION***, 2 Words... H&R COILOVERS. These will go lower than you wish. If you put these allll the way down, you wont be able to drive your car, because your Oil Pan will be in contact with the Ground and your tires will be in Contact with your inner fenders... so if you wanna go lowwww, this is what you want... H&R Coilovers...
cool 996 that looks real nice........
silver... sorry to hear about that.... it just depends... i think you can also adjust the camber a little to avoid the fender roll..... fortunately for me, i didn't have to......
Here's "no" finger widths. Eibach springs. Don't know what the dampers and sway bars are. HARSH ride and I touch almost every speedbump. 18" technology wheels.
When will we see the hydraulics that allow the car to bounce up and down? Sorry you are correct everyone has there own taste but usually people with that taste do not buy a Porsche so I do not expect to see much support from this site.
Just to be clear, I really am not one for the low rider/pimp mobile look. However, I do love the look of the Cup cars and would like to recreate that for the road, if at all feasible. That is the main driver in wanting to lower the car more than normal. I guess the correct questions should have been: How much lower than RoW stock suspension are the cup cars?
Hmmm now that is a good question and my guess is about 1.5-2 inches lower than ROW M0030, note just using my eyeball. The issue then will be these cars ride low on smooth tracks and would never be driven in/ out of a driveway. I really do not think you would want to go beyond 2 inches lower than stock or 1 inch lower than ROW M0030 for fear of your body parts, but again to each there own and by the way the bouncing car thing was a joke in case you did not take it that way. Best of luck with whatever you decide but for me the ROW M0030 is about perfect and handles great on the Autobahn where I had my car up over 165MPH yesterday down A62.
If you're really serious in lowering it that much for street use,
be cautious of the engine bottom ground clearance. Specially when driving over small obstructions or debri.
There has been a lot of cracked/damaged engine oil casings reported, specially in PCA Tech Sec. Just backing up alone, the engine sticks out first before the tires, so it will hit a curb first before your tires would.
Good luck.
I agree, I have a protective plate in the back under the engine... I hit quite a few times... Also I'm grating the front bumper a lot in-out of driveway and especially in the canyons on sharp hairpin downhill turns, even though I do have a steel protective plate under the bumper, but it doesn't reach all the way to the corners... so... cheesegrater!
I'm having fun.
Cosmos, I've been racing a black 996 with simple grey graphics for four years. I wanted my cup car to stand out a bit on the track. The 996 cup looks good with big swooshes and swoops but every version of those has already been done so I thought I would do something a little different. I had help from my GF who did the graphic design for a couple of CART cars and a friend that restores and builds rods and other customs. The goal was to look a little wild but with very clean lines and colors. Remember with a race car its how it looks from 100 yards away at 140 mph. And in your mirror.
Smile, the cup cars are pretty fun. A very different experience than driving a regular 996. Mine is a 2005. It has something over 400 hp and a pretty close ratio 6 speed. 1st is much higher than our street cars and 6th is quite a bit lower. It keeps you pretty busy. The car revs up and down so fast I had to adjust my heel and toe. At first the revs were going up and back down before I let the clutch out. I would guess you shift twice as much as in a regular 996. Maybe more. My times at Sebring were 11 seconds a lap faster than my pretty trick 996.
Other stuff:
Weight 2550 lbs.
C4 Chassis
Factory cage
Huge brakes
Air jacks
Center lock wheels
Fire system
Dry sump 3.6L
Sachs two way adjustable dampers
Carbon fiber doors
Lexan windows
Etc. etc.
Ok, I can understand what you're saying.
It's just that it's the first time I'm seeing a 911 in flames, and right away I'm thinking HUH? Kinda associate it with Camaros, Mustangs and trucks...you know what I mean? Sorry, no offence intended.
Ray,
We've always done the racecar drive into town and dinner on Saturday night. What could be better than having a couple beers, driving your racecar on country roads at a high rate of speed, having a great dinner and a few more beers and blasting back to the track in the dark. All with the blessing of the local police.
Actually it's one of the best club racing activities of the year. We'll have to meet up for a beer.
Jim
That car was for sale this winter. I called but it was already sold. Then I raced against it at Sebring. I'm pretty sure it was the car I was passing when I spun in turn one. It is a very good looking car.
Mind if I ask what the specs are on your protective plates? and do you have any pics? Mine (JIC Cross) is riding at about 25 1/4", and I'd like to protect the engine for sure...
Absolutely, I'll check later and take a pics...
This might take a bit more than a day, was all week at the Long Beach Grand Prix (I'm directing a documentary for Bridgestone, yeah... what a job!) and came back to my office after 3 weeks off with so much to do, my head sounds like a supercharger in a Fiat 500...(high pitch mosquito-like sound)
Ciao

Hey Todd, found this pics on post today and this car has the same plate I have in the back (just a start I will still take pics soon)

Yeah I like my job...
Why some of you are so quick to dismiss people who want to lower their car astounds me.
So long as you're picking a set of tried and true adjustable coilovers and you're rolling on upsized wheels (19s for the 996), lowering is a no-brainer. In fact, it's a must. It looks better and it drives better.
Don't assume when people say "wanna go lower" that it's going to be slammed like the Lincoln town cars rolling on dubs. I've run lowered cars for 6 years and I have no trouble getting around public roads here in hilly Seattle. Just be careful. You develop a 6th sense for scrapage.
That's helpful, V2. I'm going to crawl under mine and do some looking around. Would love to see the mounting locations, I might try to make a rear plate myself...
When/where can I see the bridgestone documentary? racing involved?
[QUOTE=su20]Thanks, V2. No hurry, whenever you can get to it I will be most appreciative.
Hi Todd, did not forget about this... here are the picture you asked me to take... sorry this took a long time and the pictures are crappy...
