Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

45,000 miles and both cats shot....rattling bigtime on my 2003 C4S.......Jim Ellis in Atlanta replaced free of charge on warranty - CPO, even though not really covered unless CEL light is on when at the dealer.......great service advisor Ryan Hodge took care of it......2,000 worth of work covered.....happy camper as I thought I was on the hook for it...

If the CEL light is on, no question they will cover........if the CEL light is not on when you bring it in to dealer, they MAY ask you if it ever came on.....be pro-active and tell them the CEL light has come on and there is a rattle when you schedule.....otherwise it becomes a negotiation, etc....I was denied warranty coverage at another dealer, until I got my story straight about the CEL light going in......then the emissions warranty is intact.......they will run a computer check to see if there are any fault codes registered for the CEL, but if you tell them it came on, they aren't going to press the point...hope that helps in saving somebody some money, as the cats are expensive.....

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 3Original post

Had the same problem on my 02 c4s with around 24,000 miles. Made the PSE sound like crap.

POST 4Original post

Finished a run at a DE event Saturday. While idling afterwards, I noticed a new and different sound on my '02 Targa, which has about 30K miles. Sounded like an exhaust rattle from the left side. There was a Porsche tech there who took a quick look at it, but couldn't find anything loose. Next day on my way back to the track, my first ever CEL came on. Pretty sure I need a new cat, so I have an appointment scheduled Monday. My understanding is that it should be covered by the 7 year/70K mile emissions equipment warranty if, in fact, it is the catalytic converter. That's what I'm hoping for, anyway.

POST 5Original post

According to Brad, it should be covered by the 8 year/80K mile emissions equipment warranty.

POST 6Original post

Thanks, I'm hoping it is the cat; much cheaper than paying for something else as I'm out of regular warranty!

POST 8Original post

I had my right cat replaced Thursday. 100% covered by Warranty. The CEL was illuminated when I took the car to the dealer.
