I adjusted my carbs ignition but no luck getting back my lost time.

Ran with mufflers on with drop offs before the rear axle, ran 12.5's (street tyres = no traction, and pump gas).

Sure sounded good, but ran 3 tenths of a second slower each run.

Then I removed the mufflers and so I ran open headers.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well after looking at the plenum/200 cell cargraphic cats from Greg at RSS, I finally got everything on. I have to say the sound is awesome with the PSE. It definitely growls now. I had to drive the car home from the garage that did the install (Auto Bahn Garage in Findley Ohio) which is about 45 miles from my home. The car definitely drives better. The throttle response feels like it should come from the factory. The car pulls from around 3000-6500 with a lot more vigor. I can't wait to get the GIAC flash installed.
I would be curious what other members think about doing a header install. Is it worth it or am I wasting the money.
Thanks Todd
I went with the high flow cats from RSS. These are the 200 cell cats. I have not gotten a CEL code at all. I can't believe that headers would reduce power. I am curious if going with a good header system will be louder. Does anyone have recommendations for headers. I was looking at the Fabspeed.
Todd, I have a set of Billy Boat headers that I got used on ebay for about $700. With the Billy Boat mufflers, Plenum, and EVO CAI, the sound is incredible. The stock 0-60 time for a 99 tip is about 6.0 (from several sources). My 0-60 time with my current modifications is 4.76 seconds (as measured by my G-tech). I couldn't be happier. The person that lost power with the headers bought some cheap ebay specials (no offense intended JW996) . Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. If I can be of any assistance, please PM me.
Headers will increase the sound a little. Never heard of headers causing a loss of power either. Since you got the plenum from Greg at RSS, he will give you a good deal on the headers.

From the hp/tq perspective, you're wasting your money. Enjoy the N/A engine, man, the only way to fly high.
I bet your C4S is no faster than mine and mine's pretty much stock save for the GIAC flash and EVOMS intake.
IMHO...the key with headers is having it work with other items (i.e. intake, cats, mufflers). Sounds like you have already done these and so the headers, again IMO, will work. Worth it is a different story, I am so use to Mustang after-market prices that Porsche after-market prices seem ridiculously high, so can you afford them is the question and don't forget the installation. If you had no other mods, to me putting headers on 'only' is not the correct thing to do.
As for power loss, this is usually caused by using too big of an exhaust system. You need some back pressure for the engine to work correctly (that is why buying a complete kit is best as it has been tested and fine tuned correctly). If you put headers on and open up the exhaust too much sure it will sound great but now the back pressure has been reduced causing the engine to lose some performance. Seen this happen so many times at the track. I also did a test with my Maverick at Sears Point (now Infineon). Ran with mufflers on with drop offs before the rear axle, ran 12.5's (street tyres = no traction, and pump gas). Then I removed the mufflers and so I ran open headers. Sure sounded good, but ran 3 tenths of a second slower each run. I could feel that it was missing something. I adjusted my carbs ignition but no luck getting back my lost time. So back on with the mufflers when it came to elimination rounds. With the P car I cannot say this would happen and with todays computers it can assist.
So the bottom line is if you can afford them go for it, I don't think you will be disappointed...in other words I do not believe you will lose power if you install them.
My 2 cents (they need to come up with a 2 cent smiley)
Mark: I still haven't been able to get anywhere near your 4.7 G-tek time for the 0-60. Whereas some of my loss may be coming from the clutch which is engaging in the last 1/4 of travel....I should be able to at least match your times with all mods I have.....even had Alex re-flash me last week when he put in the newer version of the EVO intake.....we need to get together and do a swap-off on cars to see what's what....I mean....beat by a TIP???
Chuck, do tell, what times are you seeing? Temperature could be playing a role too. I have a hard time breaking 6.0 sec's in my 99 tip when it is over 100.
Chuck, I think the key is the tip does not require any skill to get fast, consistent, 0-60 times. A stick does. Your clutch is slipping so much that you are probably losing at least a second right there. We need to find an abandoned road and try a rolling start. The Billy Boat headers and mufflers might offset the GIAC flash.
Mark: I also need a little more practice with the G-tek...my launches are not a thing of beauty....and I need to play around with a better shift point. I'm not sure how accurate or optimum the shift light is. I did hit rev-limiter several times....head up A$$.
