Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I had a new radio installed yesterday and noticed that the airbag warning light is now illuminated.
Leading evidence: 'Install yesterday and noticed' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'seat belt buckles' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Clean contacts thing, do i have' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
So when I do the cleaning the contacts thing, do I have to take apart the buckle itself?

Suggestion
A second choice would be to just replace the buckle that is triggering the fault.

The last choice is to follow the letter of the TSB and replace all the buckles with the newer gold contact buckles (about $150 a piece as I recall) and remove the seats and re-solder the massive ground wire(s) connector.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had a new radio installed yesterday and noticed that the airbag warning light is now illuminated. I assume the technician did something to the wiring and hope someone might have an idea what was the cause. Also, is there any other likely reason it came on; i.e age limited components. The car is a 1999 C4 with 83+K miles.
Thanks in advance...
The light comes on for many reeasons. If your seat was out and the seatbelt sensor was unhooked, which might have been done depending what was installed, it will trip the airbag light. Bring it down to your shop and they can shut it off for you in about 5 minutes, or take it to a dealership and pay $150.
The same thing happened to me, when the pull the passenger seat for the brain, the wiring is disconnected and triggers the light. Mine is still on, dealers in AZ want too much loot!
Well, you have a number of choices...
Find someone with the Durametric Software or PST2 and have then read the air bag fault. The fault(s) will tell you exactly which buckle is making a bad connection.
Your choices then are to try a trick a few have done and use contact cleaner on the seat belt buckle contacts. If that is the problem it might buy you some time.
A second choice would be to just replace the buckle that is triggering the fault. I've done this on one members car and he hasn't had any more problems for over a year.

i just had the fault cleared at the dealer for free, but service advisor tells me to really fix it it'll cost $600 total and not covered under warranty whether CPO or their aftermarket even if it is a tsb
Thanks you for the information. I called the other shop I had the car in for repair of the drivers seat bolster, and yes, they had removed the seat to work on it. Guess I'll live with with the airbag light on until I get back into town. I do not have a dealer less than a two hour drive away, and it is about the same for an independant shop that claims to work on Porsches.
I live near the town of Coupeville (established in 1853) on Whidbey Island in Puget Sound two hours and a ferry ride north of Seattle in Washington State.

It came back on again this morning - POS.
So when I do the cleaning the contacts thing, do I have to take apart the buckle itself? Which parts am I cleaning?
So if it's "fixed" the airbag light goes off and remains off or must I reset it at the dealer first and then spray this thing and hope it doesn't come back on again?
I suggest you call the dealer and ask them what the fault code was (or which buckle). Then at least you know what to work on.
Clean it or replace it - then get the light turned off. I hope you are not paying to have the light turned off. It is so easy with the right tool - folks shouldn't charge for it (IMHO of course).
i just got some of that degreaser/cleaner and applied a liberal amount right inside the belt buckle - u think this is enough? i couldn't find any of the connectors underneath the seat that people speak of... i have the sport seats if that makes any diff.
really appreciate your input here loren - looks like you're THE buckle expert
