Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I would thing most people clean their engine like this, don't they?

From what I've seen so far they recommend covering the alternator (generator) before washing the engine.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Fist time post...First Time Porsche owner!
My 01' 911 coupe is inbound and I'm sure I'll be detailing it. Any tips on cleaning the engine?
Wasn't sure if you exposed anything to water or degreaser is a "no no". Thanks all!
Newbie... I'm going to beat a couple of regulars to the punch... you will understand in a bit...
Show some PICS!!!! That is what the board's etiquettes are... you show some pics, and we show some wisdom (or BS).
As it related to the engine cleaning... DAFS... this will be explaind later as well.
In all honesty... welcome to this great board, but pl show some pics first!
(Dell and tim... thx for icon!)
Don't take that "Welcome" too seriously. If you have been lurking here for any length of time you will know that it is our usual "Newbie" initiation, especially when they don't post pics in their early posts. If you haven't been lurking then you wouldn't know that.
BTW - Welcome to Rennlist and congrats on getting a nice looking P-car! Oh, wait.... you didn't post pics.... let me rephrase that last part... congrats on getting
what is probably
a nice looking P-car!
It's all in good fun! Welcome aboard!
Dutchie - Good job!
Oh yeah, I almost forgot... I did create a new smiley ==>
I think it's good to have choices!
Yes:
I removed the cosmoline with a combination of a pressure washer and soaking the cosmoline with Mineral Spirits.
Once or twice a year, I put the car up on stands, take the wheels, most of the aero panels, and the rear bumper cover and heat shields off, spray everything down with Simple Green, and then pressure wash it off with a medium nozzle. Then everything gets hand wiped, and depending on what it is either Rejexed, coated with tire dressing, or steel wooled to clean it up. On the mufflers, I take metal polish and an orbital buffer to them. They shine up real nice.
On the top of the engine compartment, I take the air filter box out as well as the secondary air pump and clean them up and polish the air pump and its fittings. This gives you great access to the rest of the engine.
I also take off the engine compartment fan that is in the lid out to clean it off good.
I stuff a rag in the intake throttle body, and put a ziplock bag over it held with rubber bands. That keeps most of the water out.
I give everything a good soaking with simple green including the alternator and then pressure wash everything off.
I then blow off most of the water that is stick in all the nooks and crannies, dry everything by hand.
Then the painted metal work gets rejexed, and the rubber and plastic stuff gets tire dressing.
Not much to it. I would thing most people clean their engine like this, don't they?
