I ended up getting the C4S by a total fluke, as I wasn't even looking for one, but stumbled on mine which was in my price range that I set for a C2.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 2Original post

$60-65k depending on options and general conditions

POST 3Original post

I'm selling my 03 C4S on Rennlist for $59,995 ad number 6528 "C4S, X73 suspension package, Sport Exhaust, Porsche Stability Management (PSM) 6 CD Remote Changer, Full Leather, Reversing Sensors, Xenon, Rain Sensors, Heated Memory Seats, Dimming Mirrors. POST 4Original post

I paid $61k to a dealer for a nearly identical car 8 weeks ago. 04 C4S (Arctic / Metropol), CPO to 10/09, 15k miles. Not a huge amount of options but it included my "must haves": Bose, bi-xenon's, supple and techno wheels. Hope the data point helps you.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

That does help...thank you all. This one has a few nice options as well; PSM, xenons, sport exhaust, full leather, carbon goodies, heated memory seats. I may have to take a vacation to check this one out in person.

POST 8Original post

I would pay no more than $60k from a dealer. Spoke to a dealer in souther Cal about a 04 c4s with the same specs except the mileage was ~27k. they wanted it $66k out the door. I offered $64k out the door they wouldnt budge, so i walked away. few wks later, i settled on a 04 C4s with 11k miles for..........$57K from a private seller. Im getting a 5yr/60k miles extended warranty from porsche dealer now for about 35 hundies. that will still put me ahead of the game! just my 2 cents. john

POST 9Original post

If you all remember, I traded in my car for $50k and got back $1400 from warrantydirect.com, netting me $51,400 on my C4S. I just found out the dealership took a bath on it. He had originally told me it was sold for $53k, I think he said. That deal fell-through. They ended up selling it for $49k!!!

POST 10Original post

Stories like these just make me feel warm all over.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well this dealer will no budge more than $1000 of their price and they arent giving me more than wholesale for my trade in. I typically pride myself on my negotiation skills, but they are not budging no matter my angle. Ive tried cash with no trade and they still wont budge. This car is dam close to what Im looking for and I hate to have to wait to find another as Ive been looking for a few months. It is priced reasonably but you'd think you'd be able to negotiate a couple grand of the asking price right?

POST 12Original post

Dealers suck. Look around private party, you'll eventually find what you want, for much less.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Private party scares me without the CPO..especially the years Im looking at 03-04.

POST 14Original post

I worry more about the dealers than I do private party. There's a reason they have those fancy buildings, you know.

POST 15Original post

Well Kruz....how much do they want? The CPO is a great plus.... J

POST 16Original post

aftermarket warranty is always an option, IF it's not CPO'd

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Aftermarket warranty scares me more...who knows if half of those companies will be in business years from now. Charging a few grand for a 10% possiblity of a $20,000 motor swap sounds more like gambling than insurance to me. This pcar is priced at $61.9....the dealer wont budge below $61.

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

UPDATE: I found an 03 C4S with the following -Seal gray/black -Manual -38,000 -CPO with 2 years left -Carbon package Any thoughts on a fair price? http://www.porscheofspringfield.com/en_US/

POST 19Original post

That's a great looking car. My twin! (although mine is an '02) I would think that car would be a great deal if you can get it for 54 or 55K. My local dealer has the exact same car here in NY....they advised me they won't let it go for less than 58K. Just a reference. J

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You have excellent taste my friend! Seal gray is one hot color. The question I struggle with when comparing the 04 to the 03 is the incremental value of 2 more years of CPO, 24,000 less miles, and a local dealer. That's worth at least $5,000 but is it worth $10,000?

POST 21Original post

Tough one.....I bought my '02 last month.....didn't really care about the mileage (as long as it wasn't over 40K), which was 35K....but had a full 2 years on CPO. I bought from a P dealer. To me...that's enough to work out any kinks that would pop up, at least for the time being. I am using mine as a daily....and don't really care how much mileage I rack up. To me....there is really no diff. b/w an '02 and '04, so I sought an '02 b/c of price. Warranty was key. I ended up getting the C4S by a total fluke, as I wasn't even looking for one, but stumbled on mine which was in my price range that I set for a C2. I feel very fortunate. Be patient and the perfect deal will come along...you just can't sit on it and let it go. I made an offer on my car over the phone hours after it posted online. Figured...what the hell...I gotta try to get this one....it all worked out. J

POST 22 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeh I hear you...the fact that its 500 miles away and I dont know the condition of the wear/tear itms like tires, brakes, clutch makes it tough to compare. I know Im good on those items in the 12,000 mile car...who knows on the 36,000. It could need a few thousand there and the CPO doesnt help there.

POST 23 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im not very good at being patient.

POST 24Original post

Yeah...I hear you too. That's what PPI's are for! And if it's certified, it will most likely have fresh brakes and tires, fluids, etc. I wasn't even able to get a PPI due to time and distance....felt very nervous about the whole thing. But the dealer took a gazillion pix for me of everything....including tires up close. I had him take close ups of each body panel...on angles too. Talk about being patient....my dealer was great. One of the best experiences I've had buying a car, and it was basically sight unseen. I had to have my car shipped 1200 miles too.....that was the biggest pain of the entire situation. Best of luck, J

POST 25 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well...that one in Missouri sold today before Icould get down there to check it out. No big deal another will come along soon enough. Salesman said it went for $57. Someone overpaid.
