Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I suspect that it got popped off either during the PPI or when the cabin filter was replaced.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I found this in the trunk 3 or 4 days after I bought my car. I can't see anywhere that it belongs. It looks like it is a seal of some sort, but not for anything under pressure. All the caps in the trunk are are in place. Maybe a drain? Any idea where to look?

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It's about 2 inches in diameter.

POST 3Original post

i've seen those on the inside bottom of the door; its a plug/seal...after removing the panel and etc., probably just a left over from some prior maintenance?

POST 4Original post

That is the cap that covers the top of the strut mount.

POST 5Original post

Its the cover to the flux capacitor. Could also be the cover to the dilithium crystal containment unit.

POST 6Original post

It's clearly a used fragistat. They've mproved them now so they don't fall off.

POST 7Original post

not only that is from the future being a 999 part number

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm sure that once I get it on to wherever it goes, I'll have an extras 20 hp at the wheels!

POST 10Original post

Nah...I think the 40 is telling us that only 0w40 should be used in our engines . thanks, Amir

POST 11Original post

Fragistats were only used in air-cooled cars. This is a shazakastat and is only used in pre-Most bus water-cooled cars.

POST 12Original post

FYI: although the shazakastat was only used in pre-Most bus water-cooled cars, it can be adapted to work with the 996. Do a DIY search on Renntech. -td Seriously, I think this is a strut mount cover. Costs about $1.00. Click here to see where it lives - I think this might be a 986 though.

POST 14Original post

No, no... it's a "protetitive pastie" worn by the big breasted German girls that serve beer in the Biergartens. Apparently, German men have taken "nipple piching" to new heights during OKtoberfest.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yep, it is the strut cover mount cover. Thanks Loren and td783 (and all the more ingenious suggestions too ). I suspect that it got popped off either during the PPI or when the cabin filter was replaced.
