Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I've never oiled my filter and I've made the decision that when it's time to clean my filter I'll actually replace it either with a new one of the same kind, or a dryflow filter like this one
Leading evidence: 'Install by the previous owner' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I bought his first generation evo cold air intake-- the one he had all sorts of problems with.
First off, he was VERY forthcoming about the problems he had, as anyone who saw his for sale post would know. Then, he offered to send it to me without payment to see if it would work on my car first. I sent him the payment anyway, figuring at the price it was worth the gamble. He promptly got it to a FedEx kinkos location and shipped it on my acct, per my instructions- even though he is recovering from a major surgery.
I haven't tried to install it on my car, because I had a conversation with Mike @ EVO- and he informed me that the problem is not with the intake at all, just simply that it will not work on a 1999. Mike said I could put that unit on any e-gas (2000 and newer) 996 or 997 and it will function without a hiccup. He also gave me a friendly discount on their new V-flow unit, which will work on my 1999.
So, just wanted to say thanks to Mfletch-- Rennlist wouldn't be the place it is without people like him. . . and it would be a better place if there were more like him.
That's the one-- What year is your car?
Mike @ EVO said that for some reason most non-egas cars (99s) don't like them, and they never figured out why-- they just redesigned it.
That's the same generation EVOM CAI that Mfletch sent to Tedwright. I know when Mark had it on his 99, he'd constantly throw CELs....but you say you haven't had any problems with yours? Curious.....
I know Mfletch personally....and that's just the kind of guy he is...honest and forthright...
Well, remember it could also be a case of an over-oiled filter.

Maybe you just got lucky ? Mike seemed very familiar with the problems-- in fact the first thing he said was, "let me guess-- the 996 is a 1999?" He said they had all kinds of problems with those things on the non- egas cars.
Interesting. I've no clue.
To be honest I'd never seen one and didn't know much about them until I found this car. I fell in love with the sound of the car when I heard it. I know that there have been issues with some owners, but I'd always attributed it to the filter rather than the intake. The filter is more of a hassle than it's worth, hence my decision to trash it when the time comes and move to an oil free cone filter.
Ted, you are very welcome. Thanks for the kind words. You are going to love the sound and performance from the new EVO intake. I hope they gave you a great deal. Obviously, you are not going to be using the one that I sold you on your car. If your friend with the 997 doesn't want it or you can't recover your money by selling it, please let me know. I will gladly tear up your check. You helped me free up some much needed garage space. It was a pleasure talking to you. Let me know how you like the new intake.
Thanks again, Mark-
Just for fun- and a but curious after Wellardmac's post-- I decided to install the old style EVOMS intake today. No issues at all, no check engine light. Drove 50-60 miles, highway/city/twisty backroads/sitting in traffic-- put the car through just about every scenario-- drove it pretty hard too.
So, I am going to leave it on and see what happens ? The new V-Flow will be here monday, and if the first gen is still working okay for me by then, maybe I will just sell the V-Flow (and pass the discount I got onto someone here who wants it) . We will see
