Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

. my car is 2001 911 c4. which oil is best fit my car ~~ 0W-40 or 5W-50 . i just use mobil 1 5w-50 . it's best ? thank you~

POST 2Original post

OK guys, the corn is poppin' and the drinks are chilling! 20031118 - I see that you are new here. Welcome to Rennlist. Nice looking Cab. There have been a gazillion threds on OIL discussions on the 996 Forum. You can do a search on oil. Your best bet is to do an Advanced search ahd search on OIl in threat titles only. That will give you an entire evening of reading pleasure on the virtues on 0W-40 versus 5W-50 versus 15W-50 oil.

POST 4Original post

20031118, First, Welcome to the board! Now, don't just say thanks and leave. You're supposed to pick a preffered oil, and state your facts. We don't want Tim's popcorn and beer to go to waste!

POST 6Original post

Don't forget footnotes for references of your facts and support for your oil argument.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

... i am not leave~ i just make a search for oil...my english no good ~ so , some time i don't know how to say that ~ . Rennlist. you guys and everybody can teaching too much things about porsche

POST 8Original post

20031118: ....even if your english isn't too good....use the SEARCH function at the top of the page and in the box put in...."best oil to use"....or "Mobil 0-40" and you will get pages of information about this subject. Just try the search first....then if you still have a question come back here and ask it, but I'm sure all you want to know is there.

POST 10Original post

20031118 - we can't go on calling you "20031118" which sounds like the number they gave you when you were in the state prison. By the way, that was a joke! Can you give us your first name, or at least your initials? We will be glad to help you out. As you can see by my signature at the bottom of this post, my name is Tim. Don't worry about your English. As MechanicalEng asked ^, what is your first language?

POST 11Original post

Friends call him "20". Googled the name and came up with this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/clintjcl/395796339/

POST 13Original post

Tim, or anyone else Is 5-W50 Mobil available here in the US? REGARDS

POST 14Original post

Nope. It's either water (0W-40) or molasses (15W-50) for us here in the states. water and 5W-50 are on the APPROVED list.....molasses isn't but some like it.

POST 15Original post

..."molasses isn't but some like it." Now there is an understatement. 20031118 you can search and read all day long or you can simply use what Porsche currently uses, 0W-40.

POST 16Original post

I posed the question to a well respected oil distributor in the UK. I am not sure if this ads to the confusion, but for what it's worth: Thanks for the mail. For the Porsche we would recomend either a 5w-40 or 0w-40 full synthetic for all year round use. If the car is still under warrenty then you will need a porsche approved oil, if out of warrenty it does not matter. Brand wise, have a look at Fuchs, Motul, Mobil and Silkolene. Regards

POST 17Original post

Thanks, Dell I thought so. I have seen the approved list (0W-40, 5W-40, 5W-50). I continue to use 0W-40 in my current car until and unless the Porsche issues an update and revision. I respect the dissenting views, but that's my personal choice. PLEASE NOTE: it is not my intension to re-ignite the flame war. I just had a simple question that was addressed satsifactorily. Thanks again.

POST 18Original post

Wow, I'm late. Quick Tim, pass me some popcorn. Tim, do you think your cat failure is oil related?

POST 19Original post

Tim Is that German Beer?! I think I started the last thread on this...settled on Mobile 0W40 and took the variocam agrument as my reasoning. Still use Mobile 15W50 in the 964. My opinion...0w40 or 5w40 are sooo close I'd use whichever one is easier. Now I'm on the zinc and phosphorous arguement. Oh...will it ever end???

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
