Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

It seems from a quick visit to Renntech that the Mk1 dash used incandescent bulbs to backlight the digital portions of the dash display.
Leading evidence: 'Use incandescent bulbs' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace bruce' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The rest of the instrument cluster is working fine, but no odo or trip odo (the LCD display under the speedometer). Anybody ever had this happen? Vexed...
My first guess would be that the bulb burned out behind them. I think you might be able to take a flashlight and shine it there and see the faint markings of the LCD that aren't being lit up.
If it is the bulb it is not a lot of fun to pull the cluster, but it is a DIY job with some time and patience.

And I would check to see if any fuses are specific to the odometer and make sure they are good before I pulled the cluster.
Hope this helps.
It seems from a quick visit to Renntech that the Mk1 dash used incandescent bulbs to backlight the digital portions of the dash display. I just need to confirm that the odo is still ticking away in there, and it seems pretty certain it's just a burnt out bulb.
Is it still lit? Try resetting your ecu by putting the key in the ignition, taking off the negative lead on the battery. Turn the key to position 1 and then turn it off while leaving the key in. My car was reading 599,999 miles and it helped my car. So hey, its worth a try....and its free
In the parking garage, I pointed a flashlight at the display and indeed the odometer is working fine. It's just not lit. I see a part number for dash illumination bulbs on Pelican, so I'm thinking the first guess was the right one: bulb.
