Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

8 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've always heard P-cars tend to smoke, and that it's normal so I'm trying not to over-react. Sometimes white smoke comes out of the exhaust during start up, but when I'm driving I don't see anything. If I really accelerate hard and approach redline, I sometimes see a little smoke out the rear as well. Anything to worry about? A P-car mechanic test drove and checked it out last month and gave it a clean bill of health. Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Jim

POST 2Original post

White smoke during initial startup is usually just normal exhaust condensation burning off.

POST 3Original post

i get a little on a MY03... would agree it is condensation... i sometimes see water really coming out of tailpipe.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So it is fairly normal and nothing to worry about? Thanks, guys.

POST 5Original post

It's normal as long as it's not heavily cloudy looking. It should have a wispy nature to it, as though from condensation, and not from oil. But then again, you did say white, so I think you're just seeing some condensation. Mind you, if you drive your car very regularly, you'll notice it less.

POST 6Original post

How much tailpipe smoking is normal? I was going to say none, but then I read the thread and it has nothing to do with what I thought.

Did you overfill on your last oil change? If not, then keep track your oil consumption between oil changes. This will definitely tell you what's normal for your engine.
