Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
HOwever, I'm sure I'll have to replace tires before that....and then there is "unplanned" maintenance that you'll never know how much it will cost.
Leading evidence: 'Replace tires' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace tires' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I searched the site but could not find the answers to a few newb questions I have...
1. Is a $150-200 PPI necessary for a car with a PPO with a few years remaining?
2. Wil any Porsche dealership honor a PPO?
3. Ballpark figures....what can I expect in maintenance costs for the following wear and tear items for a 996 with 15,000 miles ?
Clutch, brakes, oil change?
Is there any major maintenance due at 10-12,000 miles that I should check for?
Thanks fellas.
Here is my input. Bought my P-car earlier this year after looking for a long time.
1. Depends on who you ask but I think in general the concensus is Yes, do an independant PPI. The car I bought was covered by CPO and bought from a P-car dealer. Tires etc were brand new and I did not do a PPI. Remains to be seen if I will come to regret this or not but the car is very very clean and it's been great so far.
2. Yes, the CPO is for any dealership as long as you are buying a Certified Preowned Porsche at a Porsche dealership or a CPO covered car from a private party. If you buy a car with CPO coverage from a non Porsche dealer the CPO will no longer be valid.
3. No idea....haven't owned mine long enough to see how much maintenance will cost. Next service for my car is due in 15,000 miles so I have a lot of driving to do before planned maintenance. HOwever, I'm sure I'll have to replace tires before that....and then there is "unplanned" maintenance that you'll never know how much it will cost.
Thanks....that helps.
When you say "Independant PPI" I assume you mean another Porsche dealership that has not tie to the selling dealership? I believe I read a PPI will run in the $150-200 range. Is that what to expect.
Independant PPI would normally be done by a local independant Porsche shop. I guess it could be done by another Porsche dealership as well. Not sure what it will cost you but I would expect $200-$300 here in California for it.
Kruz, I got a PPI done on my 996 that had 27K on it, and he found about $1200 worth of repairs. None of them were critical problems, but it was a great negotiation tool, and I got new tires out of it, new cam cover seals and o-rings plus the 30K service done for me. I paid around $200 for the PPI so it paid for itself several times over!
Your car has really low miles on it, but I would still go for it.
Btw, I had the PPI done at a Porsche dealer that had NO RELATIONSHIP with the seller...
