Suggestion
Because I had the Porsche Litronic conversion done by a dealer when I got my '00 last year, and my 'daytime running lights' are the main headlights.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

When importing a car, in this case a 2004 996 coupe, into Canada from the US you have to convert your headlight system to an automatic on during daylight system. Has anyone done this conversion or know what is entailed?
Thanks, Veloce10
From what I understand you need to have DRL's on our cars in Canada, safety requirements and that is why when US cars are imported they need to be done.
Pull the relay out if you dont want DRL, Granted your H ibeams dont work when you push them out ( ON) however they work fine when you pull the stalk in( Flash Pass) I have a CND car and hated the fact that the lights were on soon as the car was started. I dont really use the high beams so pulling the relay doesnt effect me.
James at Scan Auto (also a rennlister) in North Vancouver did the conversion to DRLs so that my fogs light (which I prefer) instead of the xenons when he imported the car into Canada. Looks like it was a simple wiring job and a fuse. I have a feeling the dealer will soak you for what should be a simple job.
Its a double relay, I'll look for the Part Number...My car is at the dealer, yes again so it might take a day or two..sorry
*** Edit I took this pic a while ago for a fellow member looking to do the same thing
Paul,
is it your RMS again? Or are they swaping out the whole motor this time? BTW: I'm coming up on my 48K kms service...who was the service guy you introduced me to at Pfaff during Shift into Spring: Jamie??
I don't disagree with the concept of DRL's, that comes form riding motorcycles in my youth. For sure makes you more visible. What I don't get is why they chose to use the Xeons for them. Love the Xeons however the other night....
White out conditions on the highway those lights just reflected back off the snow blinding me.... grrrr. Sure would have been nice to turn 'em off and use the fogs. Plus I don't like them blazing on a sunny afternoon seems silly, marker lights seem would be just fine. So I thought to myself for sure there would something on the issue here and sure enough. I know all the good folks (or some) south of the 49th don't like the idea of DRL's but we are stuck with them here. If we could trust folks to do the right thing we would not have them and other things, like seat belt laws, speed limits.... gets to the big brother thing.... anyways. Rant over.
After the other night seems to me it is clearly a safety issue here in Canada and perhaps if someone from Porsche were to get involved they could provide the fix.... anybody???
Will write to Porsche and see if some action happens.
Thanks all for taking the time.
Three weeks now with my first Porsche and just digging it.

That's interesting, if true. Are you pretty confident about that? Because I had the Porsche Litronic conversion done by a dealer when I got my '00 last year, and my 'daytime running lights' are the main headlights. The only thing that changes when I turn the headlight switch on is that the dash lights up. Seems so wasteful.
