You can also search for completed sales on eBay to get an idea of current values, although I suspect those sales are lower end values.
Leading evidence: 'those sales are lower end values' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Check the tires for wear before you close the deal -if you're not sure ask their service department to check 'em.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Been reading Rennlist for a while and trying to learn as much as possible before I make the jump and buy a 911. I started with wanting a 993 but for the same cost I can get a much newer car.....so I ended up looking at the 996's.
So, I'm now looking at an 03 996, arctic silver, full leather, aluminum shifter/handle, Bose sound, sport seats, PSM, X-51, 030 special rigidly tuned chassis, 18 inch wheels etc. It looks like it's pretty well optioned. It has about 45K miles on it and is CPO from Porsche. The car looks nice with some minor scratch on the left wheel well and 2 minor scratches on the other side.
What should I pay for a car like this? I think they have offered me a great price if I compare it to what Edmunds say I should pay for a car like this. They are offering it to me for the trade-in value.
This will be my first Porsche so any feed-back from you experts would be appreciated. I don't want to get too carried away and do something stupid...
Probably makes more sense to tell you what the price is.... $47K.
Is this a decent price? Since it's CPO and at a Porsche dealer it feels like a decent price?
Should I make the jump and buy it or?
Anyone interested in a Z3? Need to get rid of my current toy car before the lady lets me do this hehehe
When I am shopping around, I usually start with autotrader.com so I get a snapshot of pricing in my zip code. In addition, I also check Edmund's, NADA, KBB, carsdirect.com, etc. Sorry, no input on what price is OK for that car but it being CPO is definitely a plus.
That is a decent price for the car. Is it from a Porsche dealer? The reason I ask is because a CPO warranty is transferrable from a private seller to the new buyer, or from a Porsche dealer to the new buyer, but it is NOT transferrable from a non-Porsche dealership to the new buyer.
I would still get a PPI done at another Porsche dealer (different from the selling dealer, if it is a P-car dealer selling it), or at an independant shop. Also ask for service history and have them check for "over revs" and give you a copy of that report.
Appears to be a reasonable price to me. You can also search for completed sales on eBay to get an idea of current values, although I suspect those sales are lower end values.
Thanks for the replies guys. Yes, it is sold by a Porsche dealer and they give the CPO themselves. The car was sold and serviced at the same place. I've been looking for a 996 for a long time now and this does seem like a good price.
You really think I should do a PPI considering it's sold from Porsche and with CPO?
Doing a PPI on a CPO car might be advantageous in that if they find any problems you can have them corrected
prior to Purchase
, or you can reflect them in your offering.
The PPI may indeed show something the certification process does not.
An independant set of eyes may gaze upon your mistress in a more compelling manner.
if you're set on a 996, i suggest you look at my friend's '02 c4s for sale. lower miles and widebody for a little more money makes sense to me. the car has all the mods you'd want too.
here's a link.
https://rennlist.com/forums/996-forum/331966-996-c4s-for-sale.html
if you can... go 02 widebody...... so a C4S is a great choice.... do yourself a favor and do a good PPI and it gou can squeeze in a CPO that should seal the deal.......good luck....
Nice car but not what I'm looking for. I'd prefer a more "plain Jane" look. I do love the wide body though.
The car I'm looking at is at Stevens Creek Porsche in San Jose. I hope that I didn't tip someone else off to go buy it now...hehehe. Anyone on here know of that car? You can find it on their website with all the details. Thanks again for all the help!
I think 45K is somewhat high mileage for an '03. Must have been used as a daily driver. For around $50K you should be able to find one with less mileage. I just paid $52K for a flawless 03 Targa that just turned 12K miles. You may want to try a CPO search for your area on the Porsche web site. Even if you have to travel a bit it could be worthwhile.
I used to have an '03 Arctic Siver C2. Loved it! Great wheels too. Check the tires for wear before you close the deal -if you're not sure ask their service department to check 'em. If they are worn you might want to ask your salesperson for new rubber during the "negotiation". Enjoy!
You guys are awesome. Great info.
I've gotten the price down a little more now and now it's a great deal I think. Tires are brand new and I'm going to ask for the service report and "over revs". I suspect that is a print-out from the on-board computer to tell you if it's been driven hard?
Just out of curiousity....the option 030...is that just different springs or is it a much better suspension option?
thanks from a soon to be Porsche owner...I hope =)
From what I've seen, and I've been looking at a lot of 996 prices since I'm in the market as well, I think that car for less than $47K with CPO is a fair deal, if you want 030 and X51. Heck, that car is just an LSD and some cosmetic items away from a 40th Anniv. car. The miles wouldn't bother me, since that many miles in a short period of time is probably highway miles.

i would buy it if I were you.
030 is Shocks, springs, swaybars and bushings with a slightly lower ride height. ~$1100 plus labor to add to a car without it.
x51 was a $10,000 option.
It is CPO with warranty.
Sport seats are nice.
Very nicely optioned. The milage is a little high, but if it looks like it has been well cared for I don't see how you can loose.
I paid $46K 3 months ago for an '02 26,000miles without warranty.
