I got a seatbelt light right after picking it up and they not only replaced the bad sending unit on the one side, but also did the other side just to be safe.

Suggestion
Would really suck if they bondo and paint it, and you should tell them to take off some money or you're walking away - I wouldn't buy a car that said "minor body work to repair dent"!

If they have to paint the door take some photos of the damage before the repair so you can show a potential buyer when you sell the car what they actually repaired.

I went out to the garage today (its in the back of the house gives out to an alley), thinking it would be OK to drive since it is nice out and found a 5" ice drift running the whole length of the garage opening
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
30 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Hello all
Newbie here!!
Just bought a 2001 C4 last week in NJ
Seal Gray with Technic Group and 18" TT rims
I traded in a 2006 lehmans blue corvette for a much more civilized performance car. Many people think I'm nuts for trading in a new car with 4k miles on her, but the P-car has always been my dream car.
funny story - as they are finishing the prep, the salesman and I are standing there and some worker slipped ont he ice and snow next to the car and dented the drivers door with a broom he was using to take snow off the other cars in the lot.
A single tear streamed down my cheek and I felt like throwing up. well any way they are fixing the car this week
Trying to figure out how to upload photos
Dominick - Welcome to Rennlist and Congrats on getting the 996! Thanks for posting the pics (I think!). Damn, it looks cold there! First time I have seen a Snow-Cone P-car!
Man, that makes me shiver just looking at those pics.
I assume they have to repaint the door?? I would be very careful not to take delivery of the car until you're certain it's done absolutely perfectly. I would also get some additional $$ off of the purchase price because of the parking lot accident. Good luck - great car.
If the car has never been repainted before, the repaint on the door might significantly reduce the trade in price should you decide to trade it in sometime in the future, especially at a Porsche dealer. Therefore that is a fair negotiating point on the price you are paying now. Of course a well done paint job will be unnoticeable by most, but if there is any shade variation it will show up under the lights and that will drive you nuts.
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!!
Andy - It is a porsche dealer and the car is a registered Porsche certified used car. Thaks for the heads up though. Their body shop is doing the repair on Saturday.
Gota - "snowcone" Very funny - I didnt think of that
I already have some parts on order to personalize her a little
Clear side markers
SS Gauge rings
new sport shifter
Wheel Center caps w/ logo
I need to find a nice spoiler - I think I like this one
Maybe they will use a paintless dent remover? Would really suck if they bondo and paint it, and you should tell them to take off some money or you're walking away - I wouldn't buy a car that said "minor body work to repair dent"!
Where did you get it? I saw that ad on Autotrader I think, and it wasn't labled a C4 until you saw the pics of the back...right?
Andy
Got that from Porsche of Cherry Hill. I'm ging to ask about the repair technique
good eye - I too glazed passed it on sveral websites, but it came to my attention as i was searching through the Main Porsche website where it was clearly labeled as a C4
they had 51k on the car at first
Lowered it to 48 online
ended up at 45 incld insurance on the rims
Traded my '06 vette for 39 - they have it up on their site at 44K
Was gonna say.... wtf is a guy using a BROOM to clean off the cars?
Would this not leave clearcoat scratches? I won't touch my cars (which total do not add up to 45K) with anything but microfiber... can't believe the stuff dealers do sometimes.
I know of a local Boxster that has been for sale for a couple years now. I drove it once and asked the owner why the driver side rear wheel arch was dented. He said the dealer did it when an employee let the jack handle go and it smacked the wheel arch... the dealer didn't even offer to repair, and he did not make them! Crazy people I tell ya....
Wow, from $55 to $45. Pretty good. I should expect a $48,999 asking price to wind up in the low $40's then...in a perfect world of course.
Back to the door ding. I would seriously think about not buying that car, unless they do right and use a paintless dent removal method. EVERY time I looked at that door, it would bother me! Bad enough to get a ding, but one made by a careless dealer prep guy...not good!
If they have to paint the door take some photos of the damage before the repair so you can show a potential buyer when you sell the car what they actually repaired. Hopefully, they will be able to use the paintless removal method.
Anyways, welcome to the club Snowcone
Great pics.
Welcome! Cool photos... I love them! I hope I never see your car look like that again... go thaw out that popsicle.
I hope that you'll be joining us for our drive on April 15th.
Welcome aboard! Put a blanket on that car and warm it up! That sucks about the door. I would most definately push a dentless paint removal on that. I can't imagine the broom stick did that much damage and some of those guys do amazing work (I've had a few door dings removed and you would never know). If they have to do more work I would really push for some compensation on that.
Let us know how it works out, and post some more pics once you get it unthawed!
great shots! This weather is really curbin P-Car enjoyment. I went out to the garage today (its in the back of the house gives out to an alley), thinking it would be OK to drive since it is nice out and found a 5" ice drift running the whole length of the garage opening
Can't wait for spring
I confirmed last night that the black mark in the dent was actually a scuff from the broom handle, which mean that the paint did not chip. So they are going to use the apintless system. However she is already well documented with plently of photos
Hahaha... I'm surprised no one here told you to can the deal and run fast and far. It's a skittish group here on the 996 board.
By the way, this just goes to show that the cars are priced on Autotrader the way they are (high end of the range) because they sell there. 45k for a 2001 is a good chunk of change any way you look at it, in the snow no less!
I got my car from Cherry Hill and had absolutely no problems. I found their prices to be significantly below what other dealers further north were asking. They were also significantly higher on what they gave me on my trade.
My car was also a CPO and they made sure everything was perfect. I got a seatbelt light right after picking it up and they not only replaced the bad sending unit on the one side, but also did the other side just to be safe.
Dominick: I have this spoiler for sale. It is OEM and the same color of your car, seal grey. Call me if your interested [phone removed]. I had this spoiler on my 2001 cab that I sold last year.
