Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'ignition switch was going bad' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'ignition switch was going bad' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace anything (shouldnt doesnt mean always wont)' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

nevermind, looks like on renntech someone said it was the radio

One is the ability of the radio to be used with the car 'off' for a predetermined period of time, after which the system will automatically shut down the radio (headunit) so as not to drain the battery.
Replace anything (shouldnt doesnt mean always wont)

Suggestion
resetting the radio can be done by pulling the fuse d8 but that shouldnt change anything (shouldnt doesnt mean always wont)

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The radio used to stay on when I turned the key off, and would finally turn off when I actually pulled the key out of the ignition. I assumed this was normal.
Now the radio stays on even when I pull the key out and get out of the car. I now have to turn the radio off each time.
Anybody heard of this?
Maybe you could clarify that a little. My radio always used to shut off. Now it doesn't no matter what. Unless I manually turn it off. If I don't touch any *****, it still stays on.
Oh, then there does seems to be a bit of a problem. Have you searched on this topic? I am sure somebody has had this at one point or another.
BTW, is that your 356 in the avatar? Very nice!!!
My 02 C4S does the same thing, I dont think it's a problem, it's a more of a nuisance. Have you waited to see how long it will stay on? I believe it will go off in 15-20 min but I can't be sure. I just get used to turn it off manually
I had the same issue last night, radio stayed on... used to always shut off after removing key, and/or opening door. Maybe something to do with ignition, but it seems like a longshot?
I also have a 2000 cab, I had this same problem. My problem was the ignition switch was going bad. I first noticed when the radio didn't shut off, then the key got harder to remove. This seems to be a common problem with the older ignition switch. If you do a search on renntech you will see people have had all sorts of strange electrical problems as a result of this switch. Hope this helps.
mine stays on after key pulled for about 10 sec once the door is open. if door is still closed, i think the radio keep going without key in. my is a 02 cab.
try removing the face plate on the stereo and perhaps resetting the radio somehow.
There are several things being discussed.....
One is the ability of the radio to be used with the car 'off' for a predetermined period of time, after which the system will automatically shut down the radio (headunit) so as not to drain the battery. Of course the user can override this by simply turning the radio back on....the car will simply assume that the user really wants to drain the battery.
The other is the vehicle sending a (CAN) message to the headunit to shut off, for example, when the door is opened. It is assumed in the design that if someone is listening to the radio with the car 'Off' and decides to exit the vehicle (you can crawl out the window or Targa top if you want to confuse the vehicle), then the radio (headunit) is sent a command to shut off.
Your dealer can check this quite easily with a PST2 at any convenient service appointment. There are several modules (ignition switch, CAN, headunit) involved by are easy to diagnose.
I just took my 03 c4s to the dealer as the radio and nav would freeze up and would not shut down even when I pressed the off switch (maybe its was because kenny g was playing) or took the key out, my ears!!! The dealer replaced the power amplifier so far no problem, I'm not sure if this will solve the problem but dealer tech says it is not a common problem.
Your 03 C4S uses MOST (plastic fiber optics), the car in question at the beginning of the thread is an 00, which is just plain copper wire/analog based.
Totally different infotainment designs.
It could be the ignition switch, but no warning lights stayed on, everything turned off (including headlights). Strange... I will keep my eye out for any other strange things that could be pointing to ignition switch.
Firehawk: Ah ha - just tried it out, most of the time yes I hear a click, but sometimes i dont... i looked down the keyhole and saw that there is a little plastic thing that closes that makes the "click". When an ignition switch fails, is that the problem... the plastic thing doesnt make contact?
