Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

23 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have seen a lot of people claim they have had issues with the K&N intakes. I would like to find out if there are people that have installed theirs without any issues and without triggering any cel's.... I have mine ready for install but have started to get 2nd thoughts based on all the negative feedback (and by this, I mean the 3 people that I have learned have had issues) Thanks!!

POST 2Original post

A suggestion to you folks when you receive your K&N filter is as follows: immediately wash it Let it Dry Re-oil lightly let it sit over night wipe off excess oil if any(which means you may have over oiled it.) When purchasing the unit ask them to give you a free wash and oil kit (typically $20).

POST 3Original post

I had the kit installed for only 3 days and recieved two CELs. Wrapped filter in newspaper overnight as well before first installation. Still had small amount of oil in butterfly of throttle. Yesterday took car to dealer and they stated faulty MAF. I believe everyone who has had issues need to group together and file the claim together with K&N.

POST 4Original post

Have had in all 3 of my PCars with NO issues as well as my BMW's and VW's

POST 7Original post

ABS + PSM OFF within the first week. CEL later on. Now back to stock. Had to buy a new MAF. Got 600$ down and am back to where I started. Filed a claim with K&N.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

To the people that had no issues - thank you very much. To the people that had issues and yet posted here even though that is what was specifically NOT called for, maybe you need to READ instructions prior.... I am totally kidding here... Thanks everyone for your input, seriously. Angel

POST 11Original post

You're welcome. The question obviously is whether you would be able to refrain from reacting if you would have had similar experiences as some of us did. By the way - I would like to congratulate the person who hasn't had issues for an entire 8 months. As far as I know this product was released to the public end of June 2006.

POST 13Original post

Abosolutely no issues. I did install a 3rd mount for the air scoop and made a custom bracket for the left side of the box when I installed it. On the dyno it made 22 rwhp over stock with the with additional of a Fabspeed exhaust.

POST 14Original post

~2000 miles no issues. As for the folks who have had it in longer than 2-3 months, they must be referring to the K&N filter that goes in the stock intake.

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks again to everyone for their feedback...

POST 16Original post

Almost 1000 miles, two track days, medium rain and no problems.

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, I just installed mine tonight. I can definitely see why this kit needs an additional bracket so I also made one myself and it seems to hold the right side in better place. I started kind of late - at midnight so by the time I got done (2:30am) my gf was asleep...I have a sport P exhaust and our room is right above the garage... I decided to wait until tomorrow morning to start up the car. ...otherwise I might live to regret it. So...I will be posting my comments soon...wish me luck guys!

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, no luck... I have the same issue a lot of people have commented about. I started the car up and my PSM and my ABS lights were on. The car seemed to ran fine at idle but only for about 30 seconds...then it lowered the rpms by about 200 rpms instead of the normal 800rpms it usually runs (now about 600). I tried disconnecting the battery and connecting everything again. I triple checked the mass sensor and everything seemed in order. I don't even know if I want to take the car out for a spin...how do I pull the codes? Angel

POST 19Original post

I have a K&N on an EVO V-flow system and have no problems. The system was installed on the car around 4500 miles ago (I think) and have had no issues.

POST 20Original post

No issues here, can feel a noticable increase from power from butt dyno and loving the sound of it at WOT above 3k rmps!! Have an 02' 911

POST 21Original post

yves... did K&N so they would take it back... I have not heard from you? let me know so I can handle a warranty replacement to us and then credit you. thanks dan

POST 22Original post

I posted earlier that I had no problems with my K&N CAI. Well the honeymoon is over as I now have a CEL. About 1400 miles since install. Called K&N customer service and they told me to disconnect battery for 2 hrs to reset the system. I also gently cleaned the MAF. Will keep this thread aware of my experiences. If CEL returns K&N BETTER REFUND ME.

POST 23Original post

Just clean the filter, let dry, very lightly re-oil, let sit overnight, wipe off and reinstall. Oh an replace or clean your MAF.
