Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I would think the switch is bad, if you play with it you should be able to get the lights on if you have to, then just take to the dealer and have them replace the switch.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I've got the parking lights only when the rotary light switch is turned all the way on. No low beams, No fogs if I pull the switch out, and high beam only if I hold the stalk in. Fuses o.k. and bulbs are o.k. Bad switch you think? The switch isn't backlight anymore as well. Anybody had this malady? I don't have Litronics.

Last night there was no backlight in the headlight switch. I just ran out to check if the wipers worked and voila - the switch is backlit now and the headlights work.
This sucks, 'cause I don't want the problem cropping up again when it's dark.
start the car turn on the wipers and the lights and the ac, now jiggle the key back and forth can you shut off the lights/wipers with the car still running?
Had the same thing: does your a/c work? Mine did not along with lights, etc. It was a bad ignition switch which apparently was a "recall" item (although not really sure about the recall part).
Good luck
Thanks for the replies. The AC works, and I tried to turn the ign switch slightly, but no effect as everything is working now. Probably will quit again in the dark of night. If I can nail down which switch it was, I'll try a preemptive strike.
on some early cars there was a recall but for the most part your stuck buying one if your our of warrenty.

Just had the "no AC" malady. The LCD on the climate control showed the fan on high, but it wasn't blowing. I wiggled the key and, voila, the fan came on. Ignition switch it is. Thanks to all.
glad ya found it, some guys just change the switch, i recomned chaning the whole lock assy, i have had too many come back changing just the switch, porsche noticed that also and thats why they longer sell just the switch, they make you buy the whole lock. If you want to do just the switch you can still get them from audi
